Bosch: Legacy Season 3 Was Confirmed Before the Release of Season 2

Bosch: Legacy has been renewed for a third season.

Earlt in 2023, prior to the Amazon NewFront presentation, the streaming giant announced months ahead of the release of Season 2 that Bosch: Legacy had been renewed for a third season:

“The story of Harry Bosch has evolved over the years, and his journey is far from over,” said Lauren Anderson, head of AVOD Originals, unscripted, and targeted programming, Amazon Studios. “This renewal of Bosch: Legacy is a testament to the enduring power of the world Michael Connelly built. We look forward to giving Bosch fandom the next chapter for these beloved characters.”

Fans of the show can breathe a sigh of relief. The third season will be based on the Michael Connelly books Desert Star and The Black Ice. Season 1 was based on The Wrong Side of Goodbye while Season 2 was based on The Crossing.

The critical reception of Bosch: Legacy has been one of the biggest reasons why Amazon executives weren’t shy about renewing it for a third season. Season 1 saw a 100%/90% rating on the Rotten Tomatoes aggregate

Although that number has stayed the same with critics, the audience score has dipped from 90% to 76% for Season 2. Of course, there is still time for the series to go up and down as time goes by, with audiences possibly waiting to binge-watch it all.

Either way, the streaming numbers and how audiences react to Season 3 will determine if we get more Bosch: Legacy in the future.

What will Season 3 be about?

For over seven years, Detective Harry Bosch made fans cheer from the sidelines with his grumpy and aggressive approach to the job. However, as his career winds down and he falls into retirement, his titular show comes to an end.

Enter Bosch: Legacy, where we follow Harry Bosch in this post-retirement world, or so he claims. When he isn’t trying to ensure that his daughter is making the right choices in her time in the force, he is taking on jobs with Chandler to scratch that old itch from back in the day.

As mentioned, Season 3 will be based on the Michael Connelly books Desert Star and The Black Ice. The former finds Harry Bosch teaming up with Renée Ballard in the new Open-Unsolved Unit so that he can pursue the killer whose crimes still haunt him. The Black Ice was one of Bosch’s earliest adventures, in which he was looking into the murder of a narcotics officer.
