Summary
Another exciting, action-filled episode that continues to keep this season fresh and unpredictable.
Everything that could go wrong did go wrong in Episode 16 of Crunchyroll’s Dr. Stone Season 3. Despite many setbacks, Senku and his crew quickly regrouped and set new plans to take down Ibara in motion. Now, in Episode 17, The Kingdom of Science has the chance to gain the upper hand if Senku’s group can overtake the Perseus and Soyuz can successfully reassemble the Master’s statue in time to expose Ibara to all of his followers.
Continuing the show’s streak of action and unpredictability, this is another great Season 3 outing.
Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 17 Recap
The episode opens with Senku’s boat catching up to Gen and Magma. Gen assumes they’re coming to save him, but they’re coming to join the fight as Magma immediately lets off the first shot but misses his target.
After repeatedly missing several shots, Nikki knocks the gun from Magma’s hands. Yo picks up the gun, but there are only three shots left, so Senku loads the barrel with Magnesium to create a fountain of sparks, terrifying Ibara’s crew into jumping overboard.
Moz ambushes the Perseus, taking out Yo, Nikki, and Kinro—he and Ibara then corner Senku’s group.
Who does Senku revive to fight Moz?
Knowing they have no other options, Senku revives Hyoga to fight Moz. Although they do not want to play this card, and there’s a chance Hyoga could turn on them, they seem to have no other choice if they’re going to stand a chance against Moz.
Ibara flees after realizing that Senku has the ability to revive the petrified. He fears the Kingdom of Science will restore the Master and expose him.
As Hyoga appears to side with the Kingdom of Science, the others flee to the island, allowing him and Moz to engage in a proper battle.
How does Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 17 end?
Kirisame brings the petrification device to Ibara, who tells Oarashi to take it to the middle of the island and set it off. Realizing he intends to petrify the entire island, Kirisame attempts to talk him out of it, but Ibara refuses.
From the island’s edge, The Retrieval Team calls out to the islanders on the Perseus to show them their petrified Master. When Kirisame questions him, Ibara petrifies her.
While thinking he’s won, Yo suddenly shoots Ibara in the hand, causing him to drop the petrification device. Yo then pulls it out of the ocean.
Although nothing ever seems to go as planned on Dr. Stone, it’s these constant and unpredictable surprises that keep things entertaining. Honestly, the unforeseen circumstances are probably the most realistic part of this series and help to keep it grounded despite the exaggerated science aspects.
After Magma flew off the rails last week, it was hard to imagine what was going to happen in Episode 17; however, that made for one of the more entertaining episodes of the season. It was filled with unexpected decisions and twists that will seriously impact the rest of the season. With several episodes left, I’m curious to see the impact these decisions will have.
