Summary
In one of Yuji’s toughest fights thus far, every moment seems to perfectly capture the essence of such an emotionally charged episode.
Sukuna finally ended his reign of terror in the last episode of Crunchyroll’s Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2. Now, Episode 18, Yuji must deal with the aftermath of Sukuna’s rampage while still defending the civilians and helping to free Gojo. With the number of viable sorcerers dwindling, victory isn’t looking promising. Here’s hoping they can make it through the season without losing anyone else.
Although sometimes Yuji can feel like a side character in his own series, episodes like this definitely remind viewers just how important he is.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 18 Recap
The episode opens with Yuji walking through the station, thinking back through various moments in his life since becoming a sorcerer.
Nanami walks along the beach, fully clothed with his body unburned. In reality, Nanami is still injured and walking through Shibuya station. Mahito spots him just before Nanami encounters a hoard of curses.
Nanami begins fighting with the curses, defeating many of them despite his injuries. At the same time, Yuji runs toward the sound of the battle and turns the corner just in time to see Mahito’s hand on Nanami’s back.
How does Kento Nanami die?
Kento Nanami dies after being killed by Mahito’s transfiguration technique. Already weak from fighting Dagon and Jogo’s burns, Nanami struggles against a large group of cursed spirits, only to be caught off guard by Mahito afterward. The cursed spirit causes Nanami’s body to explode when he sees Yuji watching them.
As Yuji rushes toward him, Mahito releases a transfigured human, causing Yuji to halt. He manages to work around the transfigured bodies and finds new strength when Mahito begins mocking his dead friends.
The space around them begins to shrink, but Yuji takes advantage of this to attack Mahito, who counters using his ability in a variety of different ways.
How does Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 18 end?
Mahito manages to trick Yuji by using two humans as bait, knowing they are one of his biggest weaknesses. However, Mahito mentions having even more insurance just in case and reveals he split himself into two separate Mahitos earlier.
The second Mahito is revealed to be outside, where he has run into Nobara. She attacks him, careful not to let Mahito touch her, as he vows to drag her corpse back to Yuji.
It felt like not a single moment was wasted in this episode, with every line and shot holding some sort of significance. That made it much harder to lose Nanami, who’s been a vital part of the adult case since the beginning of the series.
With each week, this arc gets more devastating, but it is also even more entertaining to watch. So far, the series seems to be doing the manga justice, and hopefully, it will keep this same energy through the end.
