Summary
Berlin Season 1 ends on a stronger note, bringing some great escapes, conclusive romances, and one last plot twist.
The ending of Berlin Season 1 presented various great escapes for the heist team, plus needed conclusions for the multiple romances. Episode 8 is the only serious test this group of characters has faced in this series, which has otherwise been quite timid compared to the rest of the Money Heist universe.
As always there are farfetched scenarios, and outrageous moments that we’ve come to expect in this franchise. This article breaks down all the escapes and that pivotal ending between Camille and Berlin.
Berlin Season 1 Episode 8 Recap
Roi and Cameron’s Journey to Escape
The Berlin finale opens with Roi and Cameron surrounded by the police, and a shoot-out ensues, followed by a quick ceasefire. They escape through convenient underground tunnels and leave props, pretending to be still inside the caravan. Sierra (a strange cameo appearance) realizes there’s no one inside and finds the tunnel.
Evading the police, Roi and Cameron sneakily hide under a plastic canvas on top of a lorry. The police inspect the lorry (though half-heartedly), but they manage to avoid suspicion. The lorry drives off, with the driver not knowing he’s an unintentional accomplice.
Roi and Cameron manage to escape to Spain, out of sight of the police authorities. Roi opens up about his troubled childhood with his father to Cameron, showing how much he has fallen for her.
His father burned his knuckles to teach him self-control, which is why he wears gloves to hide them. His troubled life led him to Berlin. After he tells this story, Roi and Cameron initially go their separate ways (which felt pointless as they needed to regroup later), but they look frustrated as they walk away from each other. Cameron finally stops and looks back. She runs after Roi and kisses him. Her walls were up all series: they are finally down as she shows she’s ready to love again.
Bruce’s Heroic Effort to Save Keila and Subsequent Escape
Sensationally, Bruce uses the cop car to drive through the hospital to save Keila, who was bitten by a poisonous snake in the previous episode. He’s also got two policemen hostage, which isn’t the best strategy for an escape. Bruce and Keila hide the cops on a boat and then put them to sleep. Keila puts the police car in the water to remove evidence, and then they escape on a speed boat, James Bond style.
Bruce and Keila escape to Spain. Keila thanks Bruce for saving her. Bruce reveals how scared he was that he was going to lose her after she was bitten by a poisonous snake. He reveals he’s falling in love with her. Keila leans into her feelings and touches Bruce intimately for the first time. Keila and Bruce kiss, concluding an overarching romantic story.
Berlin and Damian’s Escape
Camile checks out Berlin’s hotel room and realizes he was the thief all along, not her husband. Before the situation gets worse, Damian and Berlin clean the room and destroy all the evidence that involved them in the heist. Meanwhile, Racquel (another cameo appearance) figures out that Mr. Polignac was being spied on across the street as part of the heist.
Racquel and Sierra check out the hotel. Berlin rings Keila and asks her to delete the CCTV footage from the last 3 hours at the hotel. Keila has to hack the hotel network from a speed boat and turn off all cameras while Berlin and Damian escape down the trash chute. This involves Keila trying to gauge a good phone signal while hacking, which is farfetched even for a Money Heist series.
Camile realizes that both of the men in her life have fooled her; her husband has had an affair and had a child with another woman, and she believes Berlin used her to carry out the heist. Susi tells her to threaten Berlin with jail and take part of his loot money, which is not a bad idea at all.
Berlin and Damian go cross country on bikes to escape. They are the last to arrive at the agreed hide-out with the others. The rest of the team is there. It’s a moment of ecstasy for them all. They managed to pull off an ambitious heist.
Berlin Season 1 Ending: Camile Attempts to Extort Berlin
Five months later, Berlin is having a date with a woman in Madrid. He admits he’s struggling to overcome a failed affair. Camile, who has been spying on him, finally confronts Berlin at his place. Berlin clearly shared too much of his life because she knew where he was.
Camile admits to wanting to see him again. She has a wire on her, and Susie is outside recording the entire conversation: they plan to use the recording to threaten him.
Camile tells Berlin she knows he was the thief. Berlin openly admits he did the heist and reveals his real name, Andres. He explains how he fell in love with her while setting up her husband. Camile kisses Berlin but then stops, goes to the bathroom, and takes off the wire. Camile wants one last moment of passion with Berlin before taking the money.
Later on, Camile returns to Berlin’s place with Susie and asks for 40% of his loot, or they will give the evidence to the police — a classic extortion tactic. However, when they play the tape, Spanish music plays. Berlin had hacked their communications and replaced it all with music. Berlin tells Camille that she reminded him he could be happy again and that the affair was real for him.
Berlin then reveals he had nothing to gain from being with her; he could only lose and that he risked his life for her. Regardless of the extortion attempt, Berlin gives Camile 40% of the loot anyway. She now has over three million euros. Camile returns to France as a rich lady.
As the episode ends, Berlin tells Damian that they need to plan another heist.

Final Thoughts on the Berlin Season 1 Ending
As always, the Money Heist Universe manages to provide many twists and turns, as well as farfetched scenarios, which fans will not care too much about in terms of realism. The prequel series always stays on trend, making the romance the real strain on the characters.
The conclusion of Berlin and Camile felt odd, though. Camile’s interest was money in the end, and despite Berlin being completely honest to her, it did not result in anything apart from Camile gaining wealth, while her husband, presumably, fights the justice system after being wrongfully arrested. It showed that Berlin was willing to love unconditionally with a woman if anything, but it’s a very strange character arc for a sociopath.
Of course, Berlin does want to do another heist, so it will be interesting if there’s a Season 2. Hopefully, it’s a more exciting heist, and all the team members return.
