In Episodes 5 & 6 Welcome to Samdal-ri really leans into the beginnings of a love triangle while Sam-dal squares away some personal demons.
A love triangle is developing in Episodes 5 and 6 of Welcome to Samdal-ri Season 1 since no good small-town drama can do without such a thing. There’s also plenty of other drama mounting up both on Jeju Island and in Seoul, and things feel like they’re starting to warm up now. Will the three-way romance really take? It’s tough to tell at this juncture, especially since Episodes 3 and 4 began to highlight how much history the leads share, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Welcome to Samdal-ri Season 1 Episode 5 Recap
Sam-dal is still in a personal crisis. However, through Yong-pil, she’s beginning to realize that she’s the victim in all this, and treating herself like a pariah probably isn’t the best way of dealing with that. Already, the shared history between the two characters is beginning to become overwhelming for them both. Sam-dal recalls how Yong-pil would bring her medicine to her window whenever she fought with her mother; the two think about each other constantly.
However, Sang-do has to factor into this equation somehow.
At the signing ceremony for an amusement park in neighboring Namdal-ri, a journalist who has been publishing negative articles about Sam-dal is in attendance, as is Jin-dal’s ex-husband Da-young, who makes a fool of himself and trends on social media for his clumsiness. But he also runs into his ex-wife unexpectedly, leaving them both flustered.
Jin-dal contacts Sam-dal to get her alcohol, and in so doing Sam-dal sees Sang-do’s car and is shocked by it. She rides around with him, and there are clearly some unspoken feelings. Is it one-way traffic? Sang-do leaves Sam-dal behind to take Jin-dal away, so Yong-pil keeps Sam-dal company.
How does Welcome to Samdal-ri Season 1 Episode 5 end?
Episode 5 ends with the reporter from Namdal-ri getting a bit of a comeuppance, with Gyeong-tae breaking his camera and Sam-dal threatening legal action for trespassing and breach of privacy. The friends are finally all on the same terms, united in defense of Sam-dal, and it’s an emotional development for her knowing she has always been and continues to be supported.
However, the episode can’t help but tease the coming love triangle. When Yong-pil sees Sam-dal at work out in the rain, he’s about to take his umbrella to her when Sang-do beats him to it.
Welcome to Samdal-ri Season 1 Episode 6 Recap
The love triangle stuff really heats up in Episode 6.
Yong-pil isn’t one to be dissuaded, so following on from the end of the previous episode, he makes his way over to Sam-dal regardless. Since Sam-dal’s team back in Seoul informs her that Eun-ju has stolen her idea for a photo shoot, the three of them end up making their way to Seoul together.
Sam-dal gatecrashes a meeting in which Eun-ju is laying out her stolen concept. Sam-dal asks Eun-ju outright if she was the reason behind her suicide attempt, and Eun-ju says not, which is a weight off Sam-dal’s shoulders. However, the situation still gets a little heated, with Chung-gi getting involved and Yong-pil forcing him to back off.
Nevertheless, Sam-dal is relieved by the development that she wasn’t personally responsible for a suicide attempt, and she stays out late with Yong-pil while Sang-do tactically watches from the wings.
With a clearer head and a clean conscience, Sam-dal permits Eun-ju to go ahead with her concept and leaves on her own, worrying Yong-pil and Sang-do, though the former knows just where to find her.
How does Welcome to Samdal-ri Season 1 Episode 6 end?
Sam-dal’s place of peace in Seoul in the Jeju Bank – a reminder of the home she wanted so desperately to escape and, in many ways, surpass. Yong-pil finds her there, where we know he has found her before. Yong-pil provides his support once again, prompting her to rediscover who she is. All three head back to Jeju Island once again.
The episode concludes with Sang-do asking Yong-pil if he still has feelings for Sam-dal and Mi-ja asking Sam-dal the reverse, just to keep the pending romance at the forefront of everyone’s minds.
