Summary
A character-focused episode really fleshes out the leading dynamics in a satisfying way, proving lots of moments that fans who’re into the romance will really appreciate.
My Demon takes a bit of a break in Episode 11, though not in a bad way. After weeks of constant peril threatening to undermine the burgeoning love story between Gu-won and Do-hee, this outing is a little more introspective, allowing the core dynamic to flourish. However, the exploration of Gu-won’s past life, in which he may or may not have killed Do-hee, suggests that the future between them might be a little more complex if history and fate are inclined to repeat themselves.
Things start out okay, though, with Gu-won saving Do-hee after the Episode 10 cliffhanger and preserving their life of romantic leisure even to the surprise of God, almost Adjustment Bureau style (did anyone but me even watch that movie?)
Fans will be delighted with how much of this episode is devoted to the romantic pairing at the show’s heart. Gu-won, arrogant though he may be, has experienced enough character growth to have bought into the relationship by now. He is devoted to Do-hee, and while one doesn’t imagine taunting God about the inaccuracy of their predictions is all that smart, the enthusiasm, nay excitement, of Gu-won is a nice change of pace.
Does Gu-won want to become human?
Gu-won softening takes a variety of forms, even infiltrating his demon life – he cries at the plight of an old man who wants his wife’s final moments to be honest memories of their time together, not ruined by her Alzheimer’s disease.
But we mustn’t let all this get in the way of some important dramatic details. First, who sold out Gu-won and Do-hee’s location on the day of the accident? They suspect Ga-yeong and follow her, exposing a relationship with Bok-gyu. Everyone is getting involved in the romance!
But Gu-won is distracted further by recurring visions of his past life. God suggests that these might stem from his burgeoning desire to become human.
The male leads are more or less on the same page in Episode 11. After Seok-min visits Do-hee – we also learn, by the way, that her parents were killed after her father left Cheon-sook’s company but was called back to the office – Seok-hoon volunteers his services in investigating the new chairman’s motives. He spies the demon handbook in Seok-min’s possession, but, as he suspects Seok-hoon, he’s able to hide it before Gu-won and Do-hee can retrieve it.
How does My Demon Season 1 Episode 11 end?
The previously awkward four-way dynamic progresses a lot towards the end of Episode 11, with Seok-hoon and Gu-won bonding while Ga-young and Do-hee do the same. The jealous “others” are willing to put their feelings aside for the sake of Gu-won and Do-hee’s happiness, since they’re clearly happiest with each other.
But will that last? Perhaps not. In his past life visions, Gu-won finally recognizes Do-hee as the woman he loved. Now he believes that he killed her in a previous lifetime, he’s worried that he may do so again in this one.
