Summary
Like Flowers in Sand is in desperate need of some exciting developments., but it seems a lot to ask for so close to the finale.
As we approach the Season 1 finale of Like Flowers in Sand, one can only hope that the torpid K-Drama musters something in the way of excitement and drama. Episode 8, like Episode 7 before it, can’t avoid belaboring every point to a tedious degree, and contains few important and substantial developments. With Baek-du’s return to wrestling having been distressingly brief, his efforts to remember a previous evening while hungover take center stage — which is about as exciting as it sounds.
As hinted at in the previous episode, Baek-du apparently can’t wrestle when he knows Du-sik isn’t watching him. Everyone, even Jin-su, is proud of his Top 5 tournament performance and celebrates it openly, but sulky Baek-du just mopes about Du-sik not having been there to see him.
We keep being told that Baek-du is a wrestling prodigy, but it’s hard to believe given what we’ve seen of his exploits thus far. One thing’s for sure – he’s certainly not a drinker. One sip and he’s absolutely legless, having a pop at Du-sik for not being there and then taking her compliments as an excuse to plant a kiss on her. She gives him a pop on the head and the next day he wakes up with no memory of having been such an idiot.
Baek-du’s memory isn’t jogged until he earns another slap for some dumb joke or another, which brings back the previous clout. We’re supposed to take these two seriously as a potential couple, let’s not forget. But anyway, let’s not lose focus. Not for the first time, Baek-du is prompted to recall one of his drunken evenings.
You’ll recall that Baek-du was drunk on the night Chil-seong died. In a needlessly long-winded way, he’s able to recall that night.
How does Like Flowers in Sand Season 1 Episode 8 end?
At the end of the episode, Baek-du rushes to tell Du-sik the big news – that Chil-seong wasn’t alone that night. He was, in fact, with Mi-ran.
However, Mi-ran is already with Du-sik, and now she’s ready to share the truth about what exactly her role in everything is. One can hardly say this is a wildly unexpected development, but at the very least it’s some kind of development.
