Welcome to Samdal-Ri is another K-drama that has managed to find a worldwide audience through Netflix, developing its audience each week with a charming story of small-town drama and fated love. Season 2 hasn’t been officially confirmed by JTBC, who broadcast the show in Korea, or Netflix, who have the international distribution rights, but it has been a popular drama, so there’s every reason to hope.
Has Welcome to Samdal-Ri been renewed for Season 2?
At the time of writing, there is no official news about Welcome to Samdal-ri Season 2. It has not been renewed for a second season yet, however, this is expected since Episodes 15 and 16, which will conclude the first season, don’t air until January 20 and 21, respectively.
When the series has concluded and its overall success can be analyzed through its critical reception and viewership numbers, we’re likely to get a more official announcement then.
How have fans and critics reacted to Welcome to Samdal-Ri?
There have been some great reviews for the first season of the show, and it currently has a high 8.1/10 on IMDb with some commentators saying it is “delightful.” Of course, there are others who feel they have seen it all before, stating the show has a slow start.
Elsewhere, NME says the show is a “comfort watch” giving it a high four stars out of five, and The South China Morning Post says the show is “a rural healing drama”. India Today also gives the show a thumbs up, saying it is “warm and fuzzy”.
In our coverage we have been fairly positive, and in our most recent recaps of Episodes 13 and 14 said the show is “better than it has any right to be” given how capably it surpasses its overly familiar constituent parts.
