Summary

The penultimate episode finds Gu-won and Do-hee apart for a while, but fate and a returning villain conspire to reunite them just in time for the biggest cliffhanger yet.

If Episode 14 of My Demon Season 1 was the dreaded and inevitable break-up episode, Episode 15 is the “ruminating over the breakup” episode. It’s a necessary evil in this kind of thing, but true to form the show does a good job of making it both amusing and surprisingly earnest. We’re close to the end now, but quality doesn’t seem to be dipping.

Never has it been more obvious that Gu-won has spent most of his years as a demon than in his approach to break-ups. Given that he deems his separation from Do-hee to be a necessary evil and not them falling out of love, he hovers around to keep an eye on her all the time. What’s worse is that Do-hee can continually sense his presence.

Because of this, all the lamenting of Gu-won’s absence doesn’t take. I get it, people miss him being around, but he is around, so there’s no real pull there. It’s a minor quibble, but you can forgive me for one or two of those.

Gu-won is also feeling very introspective and, dare we say it, a little sorry for himself. He’s confused about his essential nature and how his harming the love of his life was virtually an inevitability. Of course, this is slightly reiterative, as he was chewing over the same thing when he realized that he had been involved in the death of Do-hee in his past and the deaths of her parents in his present.

To be fair, Do-hee isn’t giving herself an easy time either. While busying herself with work and specifically undoing most of the stuff Suk-min got up to as Chairman, she also interrogates her relationship with Madam Ju given recent revelations. What had seemed like an organic development of motherly love now has a tinge of guilt and obligation to it, which is difficult to process.

That said Do-hee is a bit more willing to confront and process her emotions, so goes to Gu-won’s office and tells Bok-gyu how she regrets knowing so little about Gu-won and not having had the chance to thank or apologize to him for anything. Bok-gyu gives her the pendant as a keepsake, which she sleeps with, recalling her past life.

Suk-min is still alive

Combing through her memories gives Do-hee a revelation about her past life with Gu-won, but when she rushes to see him she is kidnapped by Suk-min who is, predictably, still alive.

This doesn’t come as much of a surprise but it’s a nice moment of drama. Suk-min, newly disfigured to outsmart Gu-won’s powers, is in a murderous rage and wants to kill both Do-hee and Gu-won. He believes that harming Do-hee will force Gu-won to reveal himself. It doesn’t immediately, but just as Suk-min is about to kill Do-hee, Gu-won finally arrives.

How does My Demon Season 1 Episode 15 end?

Gu-won is absolutely fuming, but demons aren’t allowed to kill humans – if he murders Suk-min he will forfeit his own life.

However, the same is true of demons resurrecting humans. While Do-hee is able to stop Gu-won from killing Suk-min, when she takes a bullet, he has no choice but to revive her. This causes Gu-won to disintegrate and disappear.
