Lover, Stalker, Killer tells the harrowing true story of a mechanic, Dave Kroupa, who decided to give online dating a go and ended up at the center of a nightmare involving a bizarre and twisted love triangle that perplexed law officials. The documentary is a cautionary tale about online dating with reveals that’ll surprise even the most ardent true-crime fans.

Where is Dave Kroupa now?

After the events explored in Lover, Stalker, Killer, Dave Kroupa has made a conscious decision not to keep a presence on social media. You can’t blame him after the terrible time he had with online dating. It is not known where Dave is, and we should probably keep it that way.

Dave would be looking for company after his long-term relationship had broken down, and he needed a new start. He would go on the popular dating site Plenty Of Fish and have a hook up with Shanna “Liz” Golyar.  After a no-strings-attached date, Dave would be working at the garage where he was employed, and that is when Cari Farver would enter his life, looking for some work to be done on her car.

Dave was instantly attracted to Cari, and a chance encounter led to them having a date. When Dave invited Cari back to his apartment, Liz showed up unexpectedly, leading to an awkward encounter that would be the start of the nightmare.

Dave has an ex-partner, Amy Flora, with whom he has two children, and at the start of the documentary we are introduced to her. She explains that they had grown apart and it was perhaps best for them to separate. The split was amicable and led to Dave leaving and moving on by going to the dating site where he met Liz.

Why was Shanna “Liz” Golyar jealous of Dave Kroupa and Cari Farver?

Liz Golyar was jealous to the point of instability over Dave and began a campaign of terror against the man that lasted for four years. However, there was more going on than anyone could know and the story would take an even more twisted turn.

How was Dave being stalked?

It started with spiteful and malicious emails, and Dave would be at the receiving end of a barrage of texts that would at first come from Cari’s number, and then from many different numbers. The same would also happen with emails which would become increasingly hostile. Cari seemed to be watching him everywhere and would claim she could see him at work, and she could see the customers he was talking to.

The stalking would escalate, and Cari seemed to also be targeting Liz. He would receive pictures that saw Cari entering Liz’s garage and spray painting malicious graffiti on her walls. Dave’s apartment was broken into, and he would find clothes that belonged to Liz, that had been slashed and torn. Further messages from Cari would state: “She will die”.

Dave sought professional help, and after a year there was sufficient evidence to start proceedings against Cari, but she could not be located. The texts and stalking would continue, and Dave would become paranoid and unsure of what was real and what he was imagining.

Dave struggled with the situation and turned to drink. He revealed he felt he was on the verge of a breakdown. One night he would receive a message from Cari saying she had set Liz’s house on fire. Although Liz and her kids were safe, the pets in the home would die. Liz would be interviewed and the recording of the interview is played in the documentary. Liz would relocate and not tell Dave where she had gone, leaving Dave even more distraught. Dave would also decide to move and try to relocate, however, the nightmare would continue, and more revelations would eventually rise to the surface.

Investigators would eventually discover that Liz had murdered Cari and had been impersonating her for four years.
