Suncoast follows Doris, a teenager who has been through a lot in life already, from her dad passing at an early age to her brother having cancer that is about to kill him and a mother who is trying to juggle all of it while Doris is attempting to be a kid. Along the way, she meets Paul, an activist who is dealing with his own problems but sees an opportunity to help guide Doris in the right direction. However, the ending of Suncoast is not a happy one, with Doris’s desire to put herself first, and a previous case of crying wolf, creating yet another trauma she’ll have to live with.

How did Doris and Paul meet?
To get away from her mother, Doris headed to the fast-food restaurant for lunch. When the cashier informed her of her total, she didn’t have enough funds to pay for the food, and this is when Paul stepped up and told the cashier he would pay for it. The two sat and ate lunch together, discussing their respective lives.
As she tries to navigate life, Doris’s mother, Kristine, struggles to deal with everything life throws her way, leading to her and her daughter’s relationship crumbling by the day. Although she continues to be frustrated by her, Paul attempts to help guide Doris toward forgiveness and understanding.
How did Paul’s wife pass away?
Doris and Paul headed to a bar to watch the Super Bowl together, and she asked him how his wife passed away. He told her that she died from a brain aneurysm.
Even after being busted partying with her friends at home, Doris continues to try to impress these new friends at school. They got fake IDs and went to a club, but her mother called her, saying her brother was on the verge of passing away. She freaked out and headed to the hospital, only to find out her mother was lying.
Who asks Doris to prom?
Doris’s new friends gave her a welcome at school because they thought her brother had died. She informed them it was a false alarm. One of the girls spoke up, saying Nate wanted to ask her something. So he stepped up and asked Doris to go to prom with him. She said yes, and they kissed.
Does Doris make it to her brother before he dies?
As Doris is preparing to go to prom, her mother calls to inform her that her brother is on the verge of dying. Although she tells her she is serious, Doris heads to the prom anyway. At the prom, Doris feels guilty and gets the limo driver to take her to the hospital. Upon arriving, she sees a sheet over her brother’s body and realizes she missed his passing.
