Ready, Set, Love is a surreal and satirical look at love, dating, and television, and is set in an off-kilter parallel world where a pandemic has led to an increase in females in Thailand, turning men into a commodity. The Netflix series was shot in Thailand to make the most of the local scenery, but a lot of the production utilized studios and sets to create a unique aesthetic.
Where was Ready, Set, Love filmed?
Thailand
Ready, Set, Love is set in Thailand and the production company has made the right decision to film the series there too. The Farm in the series is set in a countryside hideaway so the production team would utilize some of the stunning scenery local to the area to build the illusion of The Farm.
However, much of the production looks as if it was filmed in studios and on sets built specifically for the show. We do see some B-roll that has been used for establishing shots, but to keep the odd aesthetic of the show, which is in itself a satire of television, much of the series was studio-bound. The almost 1960s pop art feel is presented to the viewer in bright contrasting colors, and the sets and costumes also seem to embrace a very stylized and retro look. The sets themselves are almost Squid Game-like and the show is peppered with on-screen graphics and quickly edited scenes.
Pradhana Vanalai
According to a2zfilminglocations a lot of filming for the show would take place in Pradhana Vanalai. This area was utilized for various exterior and interior sequences of the show, and the scenes in the elegant and beautiful manor house can be spotted throughout the series, showing the opulence of the TV company executives that are behind the fictional series. The venue is available for hire, and if you are looking to marry in Thailand, this is the place to be.
Ready, Set, Love was produced by Anuthida Silanarong and directed by Yanyong Kuruangkura, who brings his creative style to the series. In an interview with Netflix, the creative director would state:
“What would cars be like? What attitudes would people have? We thought through all these carefully and visualized them in a way that’s distinctive and appealing, resulting in a vibrant and colorful rom-com, where every element in each scene has a meaning behind it.”
Previous projects that Yangyong worked on include App War, Mother Gamer, and Back to the 90’s.
