Summary
Just when I thought Death and Other Details couldn’t get any worse, I was proven wrong. Few shows have ever been this bad at trying to put together a cohesive story.
The tangled web of lies continues in Episode 8 of Death and Other Details. Before Imogene confronts Celine Chun about the truth, we rewind to get all the things leading up to that moment, including discovering that Llewellyn Mathers may have been murdered. Season 1 continues to spiral inexorably downwards in another terrible episode.
We see Anna meeting with her father, Lawrence, to discuss what happened with Llewellyn Mathers jumping off the ship. However, he said he wanted to get rid of him years ago, but didn’t for her sake and because he had a lot of information on the family.
How did Jules get out of his cell?
Earlier, when Imogene visited Jules in his cell, she handed him a tennis ball, but what we didn’t see was that the tennis ball was a key. After the lights went out on the ship, he could use his key to escape the cell.
We rewind to right after the lights went out on the ship, where Llewellyn Mathers visited Teddy one last time before he killed himself. Later, as she sulks in the kitchen over Mathers’s death, she sees a cup full of wine corks, where she finds the one that he had drunk out of earlier. There is a hole in it, meaning someone murdered him.
What secret does Celine reveal to Anna?
The series goes back to the dinner leading up to the moment where Imogene confronts Celine Chun. Tripp, Leila, Anna, Celine, and Eleanor were at the table. Anna confronts Celine about how she should run the company because she is a Collier. But Celine reveals that Anna isn’t a Collier and Lawrence isn’t her father. Although her mother attempts to deny it, she confirms the truth.
During the fighting, Leila reveals she knows about Anna’s affair with Eleanor but is overshadowed when Celine calls out Father Toby for telling her the secret about Anna not being Lawrence. When Katherine Collier confronts Toby, he says Celine had threatened his son.
Finally, after the madness, Imogene confronts Celine Chun that her mother was a whistleblower and Celine was going to take down Lawrence Collier. Celine reveals that she had a different name at the time. She reveals that the illegal chemicals began to overtake the plant, killing her family. She took the Collier’s bribe money to build her own company to seek revenge and take them down.
Lawrence Collier knew the chemicals were killing people, and it was easier to pay off the people rather than shut down the operation because Imogene’s mother, Kira, looked into it and ended up dead as a result.
Who killed Kira Scott?
Imogene storms outside to confront Lawrence about what he did to his mother. But Lawrence calls Imogene Kira, and it confuses her. Anna reveals that he has early Alzheimer’s and doesn’t always know where he is at. Imogene uses the disease against him by pretending to be her mother, and Lawrence confirms that he had Kira killed.
How does Death and Other Details Season 1, Episode 8 end?
After a search in Katherine Collier’s room uncovered poison, and the server confirmed she was the person who sent the bottle to Llewellyn Mathers’s room, everyone realizes she killed Mathers. Anna goes to confront her, only to find her dead in the pool.
The episode ends with Jules and Sunil finding a bomb while a group of hired guns confront and knock out Agent Eriksen, with the leader telling his men to gather everyone inside to play a game.
