WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS

It should come as no surprise at this point that the ending of Furies is largely a setup for Season 2, should Netflix choose to commission another outing of the French action series. However, there is a decent amount of payoff in Episode 8 for some of the plot threads and character arcs that have developed throughout Season 1, and a few revelations we weren’t expecting, so let’s break it down.

The finale of Furies uses a framing device, a little like Episode 5. We see Selma talking to someone off-screen, narrating the events of the final episode. We’ll catch back up to this right at the end.

How do Selma and Lyna stop the mine?

A good chunk of the finale takes place aboard the mine, the high-security secret train that serves as a mobile bank vault for the Olympus. The Furies have to fight their way through the locomotive, taking out waves of goons, while Fixer and Mud Man try to track down where Driss’s men are taking the loot using the tracker that Fixer earlier put on Lyna’s phone.

While all this is going on, Elie and Orso have to work together to try and find a place to safely stop the train, which contains a bomb. They eventually manage to bring it to a halt inside a decommissioned station. Selma works on disarming the bomb, and Lyna chases down Driss, shooting at him as he flees. She nicks him with a bullet but doesn’t realize.

How does Driss die?

Even though Driss has been fatally shot by Lyna, it is Selma who finishes Driss off, at his own request. In his final moments, Driss doesn’t want to die by Lyna’s hand so she doesn’t have to live with the guilt of having killed her father. Selma obliges with reluctance, since Driss is still her brother and she has consistently failed to kill him despite having reason to, but she finally pulls the trigger to protect Lyna and get Driss out of the way.

What is Selma’s secret?

As it turns out, Selma has more than one reason to kill Driss. We learn that it was not him who psychotically executed Kahina’s family after finding out she was an undercover cop, but Selma. She was embarrassed as Fury to have allowed a cop to get so close to the Olympus, and made a point of covering up her failure by also implicating her brother.

Driss is the only person still alive who knows this; the last loose end. So, even though she’s sparing Lyna the guilt by killing Driss herself, she would have had to kill him anyway to keep the truth quiet.

Does Lyna end up with Elie or Orso?

Lyna’s love life has been a recurring thread throughout Furies Season 1. In the finale, she decides not to be with Elie or Orso, though tellingly it’s the former who she says her farewells to, implying that it was him she truly loved and Orso who was just a fling.

Luckily, Elie and Orso work on their relationship with each other, and while it can’t be said that they’re friends by the end, they’re at the very least a little more cordial.

How does Furies Season 1 end?

At the end of the season, we discover that Selma has been talking to the surviving Godfathers of the Olympus. However, when she steps forward, she realizes that they’re all dead.

Suddenly, Damocles agents emerge from the shadows. The mercenary group has taken over the Olympus, and now Selma and Lyna work for them.
