Summary
A relatively odd premiere drives the plot for this episode, but it leaves a bit of a question mark regarding the purpose of what’s ahead.
Maxine is trying to become part of the group of ladies at the high-end hot spot in Episode 1 of Palm Royale. No matter how hard she tries, Maxine can’t figure out how to win over any of the ladies. From a forced car accident, lying about her story, and using someone for gain, Maxine pulls out all the stops to be accepted. The odd premiere raises a few concerns for the rest of Season 1.

Who won Volunteer of the Year?
Evelyn has won Volunteer of the Year for many consecutive years and is expected to take home the prize again. Although the award is supposed to celebrate the cure for cancer, Evelyn considers the prize self-gratifying. However, Dinah is set to win Volunteer of the Year for the first time ever, much to Evelyn’s anger.
Maxine had only been in Palm Beach for two weeks and knew she fit into the Palm Royale. She interrupted Evelyn and the ladies to talk to them, but they weren’t having much of the conversation. Moments later, we watch Maxine get in trouble and kicked out of the Palm Royale.
Maxine is getting her nails done and oversees Dinah and a man arguing. She is confused about why Dinah was over in West Palm Beach, but the man storms off, and Maxine sees this as a chance to get into Dinah’s good graces. Maxine follows Dinah in a car, cuts her off, and makes Dinah slam into the back of her car.
How much does it cost to be in the group?
Dinah takes Maxine to her personal doctor, and as they are in the waiting room, Maxine tries to befriend Dinah. However, Dinah breaks the news that it costs $30,000 to get into the group and $500 in monthlies. Dinah knows from what she owns that she can’t afford that.

Dinah has a mini-breakdown, and Maxine finds herself an in to unpack all of her troubles. For the rest of the day, Dinah tells Maxine everything about her life, including how she is pregnant and with the man she was cheating on her husband with. In need of an abortion, Maxine heads to talk to Linda to help her take care of it. Everything works out with Maxine taking Dinah to have the abortion.
How does Palm Royale Episode 1 end? Does Evelyn get into the Palm Royale?
After getting denied yet again, Maxine takes the chance to go and pick up Dinah’s dress for the upcoming awards ceremony. When she does, she drops subtle hints of Dinah being sick, and Evelyn overhears her talking about it. This leads to Evelyn and Grayman sending Dinah cupcakes.
Dinah storms over to Maxine’s house to confront her about her getting cupcakes, saying they were reserved for people getting sick. The two exchange heated words, but finally, after all the nonsense and blackmail, Maxine talks Dinah into sponsoring her to get into the club.
