Episode 9 of Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 3 is titled “The Harbinger”, which we’ll discuss in a minute. But after Episode 8 reintroduced Fennec Shand only to have her seemingly betray Clone Force 99 at the end of the episode, the primary question that needs answering is who she was tattling to. That might not be revealed in the next outing, but it probably should be, since there are only so many threads this show can realistically juggle in the few episodes remaining.

Episode 9 Should Reveal Who Fennec Shand Was Talking To

At the end of Episode 8, Fennec tipped someone off that the Bad Batch was looking for M-Count bounties. However, it wasn’t revealed who she was talking to. Based on the timeline, what we’ve seen in the Season 3 trailer, and previous events, there are only a couple of realistic candidates for who this might have been, and one is much more likely than the other.

The first is Cad Bane, though this is the unlikely one. Bane is another Class One Bounty Hunter — I think; I’m not sure when we started classifying them this way, but Bane is famously among the best — and would likely be taking on the contracts for Empire. However, Bane and Fennec didn’t exactly part on good terms the last time we saw them together.

The second and likely option is Asajj Ventress. We know she’s going to turn up at some point in the season since she’s in the trailer, and this would be a good way to rope her in. Ventress would naturally have a high M-Count but is no friend of the Empire, so it’s possible that Fennec is helping her hide from the bounties. She might be tipping her off not to necessarily betray the Bad Batch but to protect Ventress, which would be more fitting with her character at this point in the continuity.

What Does “The Harbinger” Mean?

It’s worth pointing out that there are many ships in the Star Wars universe named Harbinger. This is probably a coincidence, though. Episode 9 is titled “The Harbinger”, which suggests it’s referring to the traditional meaning. For those not in the know, the definition of a harbinger is: “A person or thing that announces or signals the approach of another.”

You don’t need me to tell you how easily this could apply to the premise of a Bad Batch episode.

Will Crosshair’s Hand Heal?

Episode 8 saw Omega and Crosshair bonding once again, but it also raised the possibility that the hand issue he has been dealing with is at least partially psychosomatic. AZ examined him and said that while it may never return to 100%, the worse symptoms are likely caused by his refusing to process his trauma from Mount Tantiss. Omega spent the episode trying to help him do this.

It is very likely that Crosshair’s bond with Omega will allow his hand to “heal”, so to speak. Even if he doesn’t return to the elite level marksmanship he possessed in earlier seasons, the shakes will likely stop. It’s a bit of an ass-pull, but the relationship between Omega and Crosshair is clearly integral to the final season, and this would be another nice step in their journey together.
