Summary
3 Body Problem finally finds its footing, with incredible visuals, good acting, and a cliffhanger that leaves you on the edge of your seat.
Thomas Wade and Da Shi are trying to get answers from Dr. Wenjie in 3 Body Problem Episode 5. Dr. Wenjie continues to preach the gospel over the incoming San-ti and how it will save the universe. Things begin to unravel on the ship as people question the raid and Mike Evans/the Lord’s plan. Season 1 really finds its footing here.

Why did Dr. Wenjie contact the San-ti?
Da Shi sits down with Dr. Wenjie, asking her about the contact with the “aliens.” He wants to know why she contacted the San-ti even after they said not to. She tells him that civilization is no longer capable of solving its own problems.
People on board the ship are questioning Dr. Wenjie and their families being locked up in England. However, Mike Evans tells them this is all part of the plan from their Lord. In his office, Evans attempts to reach out to the Lord to inform them they will continue serving her. He pleads with her to answer, saying they never lied to her, but there is still no answer.
Da Shi and Auggie head back to fire up her lab. Of course, she hesitates, but when she turns it on, the countdown doesn’t come back. Auggie looks at Da Shi and asks why the numbers didn’t return, and he says he thinks the Lord has stopped protecting its flock.
What does Jack leave Will Downing in his will?
Will sits at the beach in a chair when Saul arrives with Selwin Pugh, solicitor to Jack Rooney’s estate. Mr. Pugh informs Will that Jack had left half of his estate to Will, which equates to 20 million pounds after taxes. Of course, Will is floored by Jack’s decision. Saul suggests he try to use the money to get the best doctors, but he says it’s too late.
Thomas Wade uses Auggie’s nanofiber technology to build a massive apparatus to help take down Mike Evan’s enormous ship. Auggie struggles with the idea of killing innocent people, but Wade informs her that many people’s lives are at stake if they don’t stop this ship.
Who dies in “Judgement Day”?
Wade’s plan and the nanofiber technology work with it slowly dismantling the boat. A sense of urgency is felt on the boat, and Mike Evans is frantically trying to get off the ship. However, as his surroundings start to tumble, we see Evans fail to get off the boat, fall to the ground, and die. We watch Auggie walk through the wreckage, devastated by what she just caused.
They found Mike Evans’s body, and Wade was able to get the red drive from it. Da Shi is having his team look over it and finds a CXL file named ThreeBody, which is 100 million gigabytes.
Wade confronts Dr. Wenjie about what he did to her ship and how they killed her boyfriend. He asks if she believes in their Lord even after all of this, and she says yes. Wade leaves a tape recorder for Dr. Wenjie to listen to when the Lord says, “A liar is someone whose words are false. A liar cannot be trusted, and we cannot coexist with liars. We are afraid of you.”
How does 3 Body Problem Season 1 Episode 5 end?
Wade joins Jin inside the game, where they meet the leading lady, who explains that it will take 400 years to reach them unless they destroy them before that time. Wade asks if they found a way to disarm them, and she says yes. She says they will kill their science with a Sophon. A sophon is a proton, one they turned into a sentient computer. The universe has three dimensions you can’t see, but they have the technology to unlock them. She says they will teach them how to fear again, and Wade and Jin remove their masks.
TVs and phones everywhere start to show the message “You Are Bugs”, and the sky turns great with what looks like an eye shining down on the world.
