An English highwayman and leader of the Essex Gang, Dick Turpin attempts to climb the ranks and become one of the greatest highwaymen in the country’s history in the Apple TV+ series The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin. In case you missed anything, our recap of Season 1 details everything that went down in Episodes 1-6.

Episode 1 – “A Legend Is Born”

Dick Turpin is on his way to be hung for his crimes in Episode 1, but his group of fellow prisoners makes a pitstop at a bar for one last drink. This is where Dick runs into a writer who wants the world to hear his story. We unpack that Dick had some highs and lows in his childhood, including him leaving his hometown where he was supposed to become a butcher but ended up working with a man named Tom King. After a strange death, Dick found himself in charge of King’s crew, but after not fulfilling his deeds to Jonathan Wilde, he was arrested and sentenced.

Episode 2 – “The Unrobbable Coach”

The Essex Gang attends Highway Night in Episode 2, where Dick Turpin realizes that his new crew ranks 39th out of 40 on the gang’s leaderboard. The top gang on the list is the Hellhounds, and their leader mocks Dick and his team and sends them on a  wild goose chase to rob the unrobbable coach. After making a move to get one step ahead of Lezza, Dick and the Essex Gang rocketed up to 19th on the charts.

Episode 3 – “Run Wilde”

Jonathan Wilde finds himself in a bad position in Episode 3 when Lady Helen informs him that someone robbed a stagecoach with their stolen gold. Wilde hunts down Dick Turpin and the Essex Gang to get his gold back, but after a failed takedown, Turpin and Wilde find themselves handcuffed together. The duo work their way through two people trying to kill them, and an underground fight, only for Wilde to pull a gun on Dick. The Essex Gang rescue Dick and Lady Helen bans Wilde from ever committing any crimes in the country again.

Episode 4 – “Curse of The Reddlehag”

The Essex Gang finds themselves in trouble when they attempt to rob the stagecoach with the Reddlehag on it. Dick does what Dick usually does and messes things up, leading to the Reddlehag getting out on the loose. After a confrontation, Reddlehag turns Dick into a chicken, and the rest of the gang must race against time to save him. Finally, Craig the Warlock comes up with a potion to save Turpin and Nell while capturing the Reddlehag at the end of Episode 4.

Episode 5 – “Tommy Silversides”

Tommy Silversides arrives in town in Episode 5 to threaten Dick Turpin and his claim as the highwayman of Hempstead. Silversides and Turpin come face-to-face, and he challenges him to a duel, with the loser having to leave the town for good. As he prepares for the duel, Turpin and Nell are kidnapped by Lady Helen. She offers him a spot on her team, but when Turpin turns her down, she keeps him away from the duel, leading to him no-showing, meaning Silversides has been crowned highwayman of Hempstead.

Episode 6 – “Turpin Time”

With Dick Turpin locked up in the syndication prison, the Essex Gang turns to an old foe in Episode 6. Jonathan Wilde helps break Dick out before Lady Helen kills him. Nell discovers that Tommy Silversides isn’t who he said he was. He is an actor named Albert Crumb, and his entire persona and crew are all a facade. After breaking out of prison, Dick Turpin takes on Tommy Silversides in a rematch that sees Silversides back down from the fight, crowning Turpin the highwayman of Hempstead once again.
