If “All Ye Faithful” taught us anything, it’s how hard it is to find anyone faithful. Elena spent most of Episode 5 in blissful denial of the civil war rampaging through her country. Instead, she’s been taking Herbert to couples counseling and planning Christmas celebrations with her new family. In the end, Elena’s regime comes tumbling down around her, and no one but her Butcher remains loyal to her side. The episode also saw a brutally tragic end for the Chancellor’s faithful servant and victim, Agnes, and left Oskar’s fate, along with Elena’s and Herbert’s, hanging on a cliffhanger. Episode 6 of The Regime, the season finale, is only a week away, and these are the questions we need answered before the final curtain.
What will happen to Elena and Herbert?
At the end of Episode 5, Elena and Herbert just about avoided being ripped to shreds by the Westgate Army by escaping through the tunnels. Elena’s ministers betray her and fly away, her Army is decimated, and it seems the Butcher is all she has left in the world. Without allies or friends, Elena is at the mercy of the rebels, and they want her brought to justice. In the finale, she could escape and go into hiding, or she could eventually be captured and face imprisonment or even execution.
As for Herbert, his fate is closely tied to Elena’s. Unless he willingly betrays her, of course.
Will the rebels hurt Oskar?
When we last saw Oskar, he was cowering under the chair in Elena’s room. With his mother dead and Elena abandoning him, the poor child is at the mercy of Westgate rebels. While it’s hard to imagine they would harm a child, the prospect isn’t impossible either. One option would be using Oskar as a bargaining chip to get Elena out of hiding. However, Elena is a narcissist with no care for anyone but herself, so it’s unlikely she would raise a finger to save the boy.
Will Nicky return to Elena’s country?
As his wife’s regime turned to dust, Nicky is receiving mental health treatment in Switzerland. Based on his brief appearance in Episode 5, he is still very much in love with his wife. In light of her having to run for her life, Nicky might try to intervene on her behalf.
Will Elena’s traitorous ministers secure a seat in the new government?
As the rebels were approaching the Palace, several of Elena’s councilors abandoned the sinking ship. Even the faithful Laskin defected after his Chancellor ignored his advice for one final time. Singer and Schiff remained by her side until the rebels breached the Palace walls. The two abandoned her on the roof and escaped with the Chancellor’s helicopter. It wouldn’t surprise me to see these three spineless politicians spending the next episode licking the boot of whoever succeeds Elena as Chancellor.
The Regime Episode 6 Release Date and Where to Watch
The season finale of The Regime is scheduled to be released on HBO and streaming on Max on Sunday, April 7, 2024. The release time is 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. Episode 6 is titled “Don’t Yet Rejoice” and will have a runtime of 56 minutes.
