Welcome to another streamer’s guide, where I round up everything you need to be keeping an eye out for in the month ahead to squeeze the most value out of those subscriptions. This list will be updated regularly throughout the next few weeks, so keep checking back for the latest.
Highlight of the Month
Shardlake (Season 1) | May 1
This four-part period drama is an adaptation of C.J. Sansom’s Tudor murder mystery series. Season 1 will adapt the first book, Dissolution, in which Thomas Cromwell assigns two men to investigate a chilling murder.
It’s a 16th-Century whodunit and Sean Bean is in it. I mean, what’s not to like here?

Love them or loathe them, there’s no denying that the Kardashians continue to be a needle-moving family, and through various iterations of their reality show, Hulu has become the place to be for K-Content.
What’s going on in the lives of these women at this point? Well, it’s hard to keep track, but one suspects Season 5 will reveal all. There are probably going to be some family trips involved though, right?

Shows Ending In May 2024
There are some key finales to look out for in May. Shows have been piling up in recent months and several of them are coming to an end with their final episodes airing this May, and there might be some fanfare around a few.
On the anime front, Sand Land: The Series and The Fable will both conclude in May, the former on May 1 with Episode 13 and the latter on May 12 with Episode 6.
Under the Bridge, starring Riley Keough and Lily Gladstone, will conclude on May 29 with its eighth and final episode. The thriller is based on true events and revolves around seven teenage girls and a boy being accused of murder. The entire back half of the season (Episodes 4-8) will air throughout May and the truth should be revealed in the finale.
And, finally, The Veil will reach its climax on May 28. The Elisabeth Moss vehicle was Hulu’s heavy hitter in April, following a deadly cat-and-mouse game between two women. The finale should be a high-stakes affair airing exclusively on FX and Hulu.
Sleeper Hit of the Month
The Contestant | May 2
A real case of “the truth is stranger than fiction”, this original documentary tells the story of Japanese reality TV star Nasubi, who became a pioneer in oversharing when he ended up being locked naked in a room for more than a year.
Nasubi was tasked with filling out magazine sweepstakes to survive. He could have left at any time but stayed the course for months, unaware that everything he was doing was being broadcast live. In the process, he became the most famous television personality in Japan and paved for the way for an entire industry of live-streamers.
Fascinating and topical, this will be a vital documentary in May.
