Paramount+ has plenty of new additions in May 2024, both licensed and original. For once it’s the licensed stuff that may be more appealing, with all seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the first four seasons of The X-Files dropping on the platform.
Music fans are well served with some of the releases this month, but there’s a bit of something for everyone as ever. Luckily, we’re on-hand to comb through the schedule and pick out the stuff you should be paying extra attention to, so let’s make sure that subscription doesn’t go to waste.

It’s rare these days for the standout release of a streaming platform on any given month not to be an original show or movie, but it’s impossible to overstate the cultural importance of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Sarah Michelle Gellar defined a generation in this role and shifted the expectations of what was possible for teen-focused, female-fronted supernatural dramas. Many of your current favorite shows wouldn’t exist without this one, and having the entire thing so readily accessible could introduce an entirely new audience to it.
Music Lovers Are Spoiled For Choice
Lolla: The Story of Lollapalooza
There’s a lot going on musically on Paramount+ this month.
Dolly Parton’s Pet Gala might be more of an animal show than anything else, but you know… it’s Dolly Parton. Still counts.
On May 1 there’s a new block of episodes for Behind the Music, a behind-the-scenes documentary series that has been running since 1997, formerly on VH1.
But the big one is Lolla: The Story of Lollapalooza, releasing on May 21. This original documentary series will explore how the Lollapalooza music festival, originally intended as a farewell tour for Jane’s Addiction, became a cultural movement and changed music forever.

With whispers calling this the new Squid Game, the discerning viewer definitely shouldn’t be complacent about Pyramid Game, which promises to see the month out with a bang.
Set against the backdrop of girls’ high school, the premise finds participants of the titular game graded on an exam-style letter system through popular vote. Those who receive an F become victims of school violence.
Sounds pleasant, no?
