Summary
Episode 13 of Miss Night and Day drags its feet a little, but it does feel like we’re approaching the endgame, with key reveals in both the dual identity and murder mystery plots on the near horizon.
Episodes 11 & 12 of Miss Night and Day really upended the core mystery plot and made some good progress in the relationship dynamics, so Episode 13 has a lot of work to do. It does drag its feet a little, to be fair. With only three episodes left in the season, there definitely needs to be a bit more movement in the serial killer plot, though suspicions are beginning to mount around one individual in particular.
Let’s break down the latest.
The Love Triangle Continues
Following their kiss at the end of the previous episode, Mi-jin and Ji-woong are going through a giddy phase. They agree to keep their relationship a secret, but can’t help texting one another being all giggly, which isn’t exactly keeping things quiet.
Amusingly, the text exchanges continue even when Mi-jin is Lim Sun, but Byeong-duk doesn’t have any idea that they’re the same person. It remains funny whenever the show deploys the dual identity gimmick in these small ways.
But Ko Won continues to hover around making a nuisance of himself after having confessed his feelings to Lim Sun. Even though she tells him that she likes someone else, Ko Won isn’t going to move on anytime soon.
Baek Buys Time
We know why Mr. Baek did what he did, and by the end of this episode, Ji-woong knows that he isn’t guilty of being the serial kidnapper and murderer whose crimes go back years. But for now, he’s willing to take the blame so that Mi-jin can work on exposing the real killer.
Of course, it’s a little weird to Lim Sun to have this kind of connection with a suspect, and it doesn’t go unnoticed. But given her personal connection to the case she’s willing to play along and keep the precise nature of intentions quiet. She wants to know what happened to the real Lim Sun, and she’s still trying to keep her body-switching ability quiet.
I can see how, at this late stage, Mi-jin/Lim Sun’s reticence to reveal pretty crucial information could be getting quite annoying for viewers. But on the other hand, I do believe we’re reaching a turning point now where the truth will come out. Ji-woong has enough justification of his own to work with Mi-jin/Lim Sun and Baek to catch the real killer even after the truth is revealed – but the deception might not do much for the burgeoning romance.
Strands Intertwine
Mi-jin’s efforts to keep her dual identity quiet have been one of the core dramatic threads throughout the whole season, but towards the end of Miss Night and Day Episode 13, this intertwines with the murder plot.
Ji-woong, by the way, continues to be suspicious about the overlaps between Mi-jin and Lim Sun, but that reveal is presumably being saved for later. In the meantime, Lim Sun tracks down the sender of threatening messages that have been sent to the office. These have been interpreted as threats to expose Lim Sun… but not quite.
As it turns out, the sender is targeting Na Ok-hui, the suspicious older lady intern. This coincides with the discovery that the prime suspect in the murder case is a woman named Gong Eun-sim, who disappeared 20 years ago. Are these two women one and the same? It certainly seems likely.
