Good American Family is a true crime drama that will premiere on Hulu in March 2025. It features an incredible real-life story. Katie Robbins created the series, and Ellen Pompeo (our Grey’s Anatomy alumni who will also star) and Laura Holstein will serve as executive producers. Liz Garbus, also on the executive producer team, directed the pilot episode.
A shocking real-life story inspires the series. In 2010, a Midwestern couple, Kristine and Michael Barnett, adopted a 7-year-old girl named Natalia Grace, a Ukrainian-born American with a rare form of dwarfism. However, they later suspected she might be an adult woman posing as a child and felt like their family may be in danger.
A year later, the family abandoned Natalia Grace and pursued a court order to change her birth year from 2003 to 1989. Subsequently, many years later, DNA test results uncover a disturbing truth and even more questions about the identity of Natalia.
Good American Family will present a reimagined version of true events, examining the central mystery of whether Natalia Grace was a child or an adult, the family dynamics, and the sensational case that unfolded over a decade.

Why You Should Watch
This is an incredible true crime story that is extraordinarily layered and nuanced. The tale of Natalia Grace and her adoptive parents captured nationwide headlines, and the mystery engaged the public.
With a talented team behind the series and Ellen Pompeo’s return to TV (after her long and respected run on Grey’s Anatomy), this could be a must-watch show and maybe the best dramatized true crime series of 2025.
