High Potential is an above-average procedural at the best of times, and that has been evident pretty regularly in Season 2. But only rarely does it come together in quite the way it does in Episode 10, “Grounded”, a really excellent hour that neatly embodies all of the interesting and unique things this show does well.

As predicted, High Potential Season 2 has returned to its standard case-of-the-week procedural format, with most of Episode 9, “Under the Rug”, proceeding as if the events of the solid second half of the art thief two-parter never happened.

High Potential is pretty good at these two-parters, isn’t it? In case you needed a refresher, Season 2’s midseason finale left Morgan with a bit of egg on her face, since it turned out she was frolicking with the prime suspect in the case of a stolen Rembrandt and the murder of a museum curator.

I’ve always maintained that High Potential works better when it legitimately challenges Morgan.

Just in case you needed a reminder that we were firmly in Spooky Season, High Potential Season 2 delivers its obligatory Halloween episode.

A culture is defined by the stories it tells, so I’m not sure what it has to say about our current climate that you can’t turn the TV on these days without having to endure something about influencers.

One murder is usually enough for High Potential, but Episode 4 of Season 2, “Behind the Music”, has two to worry about.

As predicted, High Potential Season 2 is losing a bit of steam after wrapping up the Game Maker storyline so quickly.

And just like that, the Game Maker mini-arc that has been the focal point of High Potential in both the Season 1 finale and the Season 2 premiere has come to an end.

It has been a while since High Potential was last on our screens, something that I was reminded of in the Season 2 premiere.

Episode 12, “Partners”, proves that the show is much more interesting when it’s using that as a starting point for meaningful character development.

Episode 11, “The Sauna at the End of the Stairs”, could go either way. It isn’t like the previous episode, which just seemed to pivot to a different genre entirely, but it has a similar try-hard quality that I found off-putting.

High Potential has always had a comedic streak, but Episode 10, “Chutes and Murders”, takes it too far. I’m not sure why.

High Potential Episode 9 also weaves the Roman subplot right through it instead of confining it to the margins, which means Morgan takes a break from investigating Marvin’s death to accompany Selena to a meeting with Gio, the elusive criminal concierge that Roman was somehow connected to.

“Obsessed” is a fitting title for the midseason premiere of High Potential. Morgan is obsessed, for instance, with solving crimes, spouting off random facts about everything.
