Things are really starting to heat up in Memory of a Killer now. If Episode 3 was all about teasing out Angelo’s worsening Alzheimer’s issues, making vague hints about who the Ferryman might be and who might be double-crossing whom, Episode 4, “Unhappy Ending”, is about fleshing those lingering suspicions out into full-blown theories.

I do like Memory of a Killer, and I think it has a fundamentally great premise, but you can feel it wearing a little bit in Episode 3, “Samurai”. This is partly the fault of Angelo himself, who is rather in denial about his worsening memory issues and keeps neglecting them, making his already complicated situation even worse.

It’s fair to say that Best Medicine was starting to show some worrying signs in its previous episode. Nothing major, granted, but a bit of repetition was starting to creep in, which isn’t ideal so early in the show’s run.

Best Medicine is proceeding… oddly, I think it’s fair to say. On the one hand, it’s doing a very solid job of fleshing out Port Wenn as a setting, and several of its inhabitants not named Doc Martin, and these two aspects both power Episode 3, “Take Me Out of the Ballgame”.

Memory of a Killer has one of those premises that just resonates, which is probably why it has been adapted and remade so many times.

You might have a memory of Memory of a Killer, a Belgian novel that became a Belgian movie and was remade with Liam Neeson in 2022 under the simpler title Memory. If you don’t, Episode 1 will give you a familiar feeling either way.

Good news! I think Episode 2 of Best Medicine is definitely better than the premiere, which is a good sign.

If you didn’t know that Best Medicine was a remake of the cosy British hit Doc Martin, you’ll figure it out pretty soon into Episode 1, which is basically a carbon copy of the original show’s pilot.

Murder in a Small Town doesn’t suit the cliffhanger ending, does it?

Unpopular opinion though it might be, I think Mayor Christie Holman has been my favourite character in Murder in a Small Town Season 2.
