Amazon Series Modern Love Season 1, Episode 2 - When Cupid Is a Prying Journalist

Summary

Modern Love Season 1, Episode 2, “When Cupid Is a Prying Journalist” is a little too watery, and there’s a question of what the point of the story is.

This recap of Amazon Series Modern Love Season 1, Episode 2, “When Cupid Is a Prying Journalist” contains significant spoilers. You can read the recap of the previous episode by clicking these words.

Episode 2 plays the ironic story of a man wounded by a woman who has cheated on him, and in the same vein, he is trying to maintain an image as CEO of a dating app called Fuze. “When Cupid Is a Prying Journalist” opens up with Joshua (Dev Patel) participating in a magazine interview with a famous journalist, promoting his new app, and then as he is about to part ways in the interview, he is asked one question: “Have you ever being in love”.

Episode 2 can be accused of being overly soppy, but considering the title of the Amazon series is Modern Love I had to lay down my barriers a little bit. Joshua tells the story of a time he met a woman named Emma (Caitlin McGee) at a job interview. Rather than taking an interview, he decided to wait for her outside and ask for a date.

The story moves into a whirlwind romance of going to the zoo together, quickly moving in, and storing the engagement ring away for the perfect moment. But, the story takes a turn; one night, Emma returns home to Joshua upset, confessing she briefly allowed an ex back into her life. He immediately packs up and leaves.

At this point, I thought the whole point of the story is that he made the app to find true love, but in fact, Joshua goes down a path of dating a number of girls and never feeling that spark, that excitement that gets you up in the morning when you see your partner next to you. He tells the journalist that Emma is now engaged, and would believe it to be unwise to re-engage, despite knowing that he could forgive her.

Episode 2 then diverts, with the journalist telling this long-winded story about how she met a man who unfortunately lost her number at a bar after giving him a book, and years later he showed up at a book signing. They were both married by the time they met again, which made it complicated for both of them.

Modern Love Season 1, Episode 2, “When Cupid Is a Prying Journalist”, ends with the journalist including Joshua’s story in the interview, re-naming Emma to Emily. Emma reads the interview, cries, and breaks up with her fiance. Emma and Joshua rekindle their romance. I guess the purpose of the story is that love is not straightforward in the modern world?

I just saw the episode, but I’m confused with what ended up happening with the journalist. She told her husband “We’re done” and her long, lost love told his wife “I wanna work on this”. So, it seems that it’s not a happy ending for them, right?, in terms of them getting back together. She broke up with her husband, while he seems to want to continue his marriage.

Daniel, you know why love is not as “”””””””””straightforward”””””””””” as you could think? Because of the billion of things which make us busy in our daily life, and we tend to find more interesting activities than only “”giving a rose””. And we shouldn’t feel bad about it. At least I don’t.

What’s more, I’m really proud to live in the 21st century, but sad of seeing people like you (I guess you are in your 30s?) abandoning modern ideals. If this century was a sinking boat, I would be hanging on the mast until the end while others would have “””””””””””””””””saved”””””””””””””””””.

Does anyone know the location and name of the small town (supposedly in upstate New York) where the journalist had a book signing and meet with her former lover. Please tell me the name of that quaint town.
