This recap of Netflix series Dead to Me season 2, episode 4, “Between You And Me” contains spoilers.

How does Dead to Me season 2, episode 4, “Between You And Me” begin?

Episode 4 opens up with a black screen but you can hear shovelling. Jen and Judy have buried Steve.

Jen suddenly believes she has left her smartphone at the burial site and after a lot of panic, she finds it. The panic deepens again as the police pull them over — after a few brief tense moments, the officer gives Jen a ticket for handling her phone while driving.

Jen and Judy pause at a diner and Judy is upset that Steve did not have a nice send-off. Jen reminds her that they are now in Snow White, they are in Scarface.

What do they do next?

Judy and Jen love a break and try book into a hotel in the middle of nowhere. They book themselves into a presidential suite — Judy is still upset and not talking. Jen is not feeling the full weight of Judy’s emotions and tries offering her a spa service.

Jen is struggling to help her.

Does Jen manage to help Judy eventually?

Yes — Judy tells Jen that they should head to the bar and do a “toast to Steve”, commiserate, drink and let it all out.

The drinks are all free as they use the bar tab.

Judy says Steve was special and sweet and reminisces about the good moments — “I loved him”.

Judy tells Jen about the time when they hit Ted, she found Steve crying on wet sand on the beach — she claims Steve just didn’t know how to deal with it. She sobs and tells Jen she wanted a proper goodbye.

Jen cries and repeatedly says sorry and tells Judy that she deserved a goodbye — “I love you so much”.

Episode 4 shining through the sisterhood strongly again, just like in Season 1.

Do they stay at the hotel longer?

The women get drunk and dance the night away. The barman learns they are not at the wedding party and kicks them out.

The next day, Jen gets a phonecall that the bird is dead and Henry is upset. Jen returns home and comforts him.

They throw a funeral for the bird and Judy asks Jen to do a speech. Jen sings “Dream A Little Dream Of Me” and remembers the good times with Steve.

How does Dead to Me season 2, episode 4, “Between You And Me” end?

Later in the evening, there is a slight twist. Shandy heads over with her mother and confesses to Jen that she killed the bird “by accident”. This kid gives off serial killer vibes. Shandy is worried about losing Henry as a best friend.

Jen tells Shandy that sometimes people need a friend, more than they need the truth. I found this to be ironic for a character that was appalled at Judy for keeping away the truth in Season 1.

In the middle of the night, Charlie opens the storage unit and sees the Mercedes and says “f**k yeah mom”.

Dead to Me season 2, episode 4, “Between You And Me” did not progress the story much but it shows our two leading characters having fun, which is enjoyable for the audience.
