This recap of The Flight Attendant Season 1 Episode 5, “Other People’s Houses”, contains spoilers. You can check out our thoughts on the previous episode by clicking these words.

If Cassie didn’t look suspicious to the authorities before, she certainly does standing next to the body of a dead woman who has just fallen from several storeys and splattered on the concrete. And as ever, Cassie is not very good with the authorities. Now she believes the truth is on her side, though, she’s arguably even worse, not just denying her own guilt but laying out virtually every detail of the conspiracy she has uncovered thus far, including allegations of weapons smuggling supported by – you guessed it! – no evidence whatsoever.

This doesn’t just make Cassie look suspect but raises the question of where she got all her information in the first place. As ever, her determination to get results isn’t reflecting well on her friends, including her lawyer, Annie, who in “Other People’s Houses” is forced into repaying “favours” to very dodgy clients at the urging of her boss. Perhaps more to the point, Cassie also continues to rope Max into her schemes, and as we’ll see, that backfires pretty badly by episode’s end.

At least Cassie seems to be getting a hang of the whole espionage thing. She’s getting good at slipping in and out of new identities and cooking up ridiculous reasons to get into places (and excuses for being there when she’s caught.) Is she genuinely improving through experience, or is she just getting a bit more keen on the law-breaking lifestyle than seems wise? Probably a combination of the two.

None of this helps, though, when Cassie and Max break into one of the standard evil corporation’s standard suspicious subsidiaries to hack into some servers – isn’t it convenient that she has a literal hacker basically on retainer? – and end up being caught in the act and pursued. This would be bad enough, but eventually their pursuers catch up and flatten Max with their car! “Other People’s Houses” ends with Cassie frantically performing CPR as Max’s phone trills with an incoming call from Annie. Things are not going okay!
