Netflix series You season 3
4.5

Summary

As always, You is on top form. An unexpected turn of events early on helps create a well-crafted story. Mix in the crazy dynamic between Joe and Love, Season 3 proves to be one of the best shows of 2021.

The review discusses the Netflix series You season 3 and does not contain any spoilers.

You is arguably one of the greatest and most successful shows that Netflix has on its platform. With the previous two installments proving to be commercial and critical successes, Season 3 is likely to land a similar fate. But what sets Season 3 apart is the relationship between Joe (played by Penn Badgley) and Love (played by Victoria Pedretti). Never before has a married pair of murderers been so likable, plus it’s a blast how they both cope with parenthood. Which for them, can be harder than getting away with murder.

Naturally, after the manner in which Season 2 concluded, there’s a range of new cast members. They include Shalita Grant, Travis Van Winkle, and Tati Gabrielle. Michaela McManus plays the role of the woman next door, who is granted to be the character fans will be most looking forward to meeting, following the high levels of speculation following her “hands” appearance in the Season 2 finale. Scott Speedman also plays a memorable recurring role. You may know him from past roles such as Baz in Animal Kingdom and for his upcoming series regular role as Dr. Nick Marsh in Grey’s Anatomy. But of all of the new cast members, Dylan Arnold’s performance as Theo is the most memorable. Maybe it’s the quirky character or Arnold’s acting chops. It doesn’t really matter. But Theo is likely to acquire the same form of likeability that Forty had throughout Season 2.

Unlike the previous installment, where the characters that you thought would survive did survive, and the characters you thought would die did die, part 3 features more shocking arcs/developments for the characters. Brilliant writing throughout makes it hard to second guess what will come. You Season 1 was the show at its best, whilst Season 2 felt slightly inferior but you’ll be pleased to know that the show is back to a high standard.

All of the episodes play out fantastically, with many mini “shocks” along the way. But it’s the finale that stands out. It’s shocking, exciting, gripping, and emotional. This episode could very well be the best episode of You yet.

As for a fourth season, nothing has been announced just yet. But considering the way in which You Season 3 concludes, you can almost guarantee there’ll be another season. Question is, who will return?
