Summary

We are only one episode in, and Emily is already in deep trouble.

This recap of Netflix’s Emily in Paris season 2, episode 1, “Voulez-Vous Coucher Avec Moi?” contains spoilers.

The cliffhanger in the season 1 finale was cruel to the fans of this hate-it-or-love-it show. But season 2 is here, and we must now wait with bated breath for more cringeworthy moments as Emily has to navigate what to do about Gabriele and his girlfriend, Camilla.

Emily in Paris season 2, episode 1 recap

Episode 2 opens with Emily unable to get the thought of Gabriel out of her head after that steamy night of passion. She has a lot to get off her mind for the start of season 2. Camille messages her to make things worse — she wants to know where her boyfriend Gabriel is. Emily reveals to Mindy that she had incredible sex with Gabriel, believing it was going to be the last time she would see him. Mindy reminds Emily that she has a romantic weekend with Mathieu, so she has an alibi.

Emily tells Gabriel that she’s going to meet his girlfriend Camille. She didn’t want to interfere with anyone’s relationship. Gabriel then looks bothered when he learns Emily is off for a romantic weekend away with Mathieu. Camille finds Emily at work so they can talk. Camille doesn’t know what to do about Gabriel; she doesn’t believe he’s staying for her and suspects something strange is happening. But before they can continue their chat, there’s a marketing meeting about a champagne brand by Pierre, but Emily cannot stop thinking about her sex with Gabriel. A lot is bubbling up inside.

At lunch with Emily and Sylvie, Camille talks about Gabriele. She thinks he’s staying because Antoine is investing in the restaurant. She thinks his ego is fragile for not taking her family’s money offer. When Camille goes to the bathroom, Sylvie suspects Emily is having an affair with Gabriele. Emily insists that Gabriele isn’t staying in Paris for her, and Emily is her friend, but Sylvie remains sceptical.

Before heading out to Mindy’s drag night, Camille notices that Emily has the same omelette pan as Gabriel (it is Gabriel’s pan), but Emily brushes the conversation off. Mindy performs at the stage and shows off her vocals.

The ending

Emily heads out for her weekend away with Mathieu to St. Tropez. Gabriel rings Emily — he cannot believe he stayed in Paris for her when she doesn’t want him. He wants to be reassured of their feelings. Emily admits she can’t stop thinking about him, but she has to move on. Mathieu hears the end of the conversation and asks if she was speaking to Gabriel. He asks her if she loves him, but she can’t answer, which is the answer in itself. He leaves the train, meaning Emily has to enjoy the trip independently.

We are only one episode in, and Emily is already in deep trouble.

Additional points

  • Julien struggles with a marketing pitch, so Emily helps. Julien is annoyed that she intervened. He feels she has stolen the account off him, but she doesn’t want to take the credit. Julien tells Emily that they are competitors, not friends.
