Now the story is bedded in, the romance begins, but it’s going to take some time for our lead characters to get accustomed to their feelings. The episode is titled “In Between Seasons,” which is undoubtedly metaphorical for ending one relationship and forming another.

Forecasting Love and Weather season 1, episode 3 recap

Episode 3 picks up from where we left; Si-woo and Ha-kyung agree to be mature at work after their steamy encounter. Ha-kyung’s mother and sister noticed that she did not return home the night before. The theme of “In Between Seasons” begins as Si-woo narrates about the sadness and excitement of changing seasons, i.e., sad that his break-up with Reporter Chae happened but excited at the prospect of a new relationship.

After a night of drunken passion with Si-woo, Ha-kyung is late for work the next day. She finally gets in for a meeting, but she’s flustered and sneezes as she sits down. She struggles to lead the session, and during the analysis, Si-woo has a different view of the waves and winds compared to Senior Forecaster Um. Ha-kyung wants to await further data.

However, the fishermen want the high wind warning lifted so they can fish, arguing that the sea looks calm enough to “swim in.” There’s public pressure on the weather station. Ki-jun approaches Ha-kyung about the weather warning, demanding that it be lifted. He also believes that she is withholding the preliminary report due to personal feelings, and once again, the exes argue in front of other colleagues. Ki-jun was gaslighting her to get his way, but Si-woo intervenes, stating that the team is “working their asses off” to get the data, and he tells him to stop complaining. Ha-kyung has to shut the tensions down quickly so it doesn’t bubble over. After this awkward situation, Si-woo tells Ha-kyung that she has a fever and then reassures her that he will not ask her out. Of course, this is important for the ending of episode 3.

The weather team tentatively agrees that the wave heights and wind look low-risk, but they are still uncertain about lowering the warning in case the data becomes ominous. The level is reduced to “watch,” and the high winds warning extension is submitted, much to the dismay of the fishermen.

Ha-kyung reminisces in her old apartment, but then she’s surprised to see Si-woo knocking on the apartment door — unknowingly, he agreed to buy an item off her on the marketplace. Ha-kyung is irritated, but Si-woo gives her advice on how to sell in the market. As he speaks, her heart races — she’s in trouble!

The ending

As episode 4 ends, Ha-kyung finds herself in a sticky position…

Si-woo asks her if she’d like anything to eat. As they walk, Ha-kyung narrates about the ambiguous period with the season changing, suggesting her heart is moving from one place to another, but slowly. While they eat at a restaurant, Ha-kyung tells Si-woo that too many things remind her of Ki-jun in the apartment. Si-woo feels she shouldn’t lose the apartment because of him and suggests he doesn’t want to see her hurt. He then checks her fever and touches her head, and Ha-kyung’s heart paces once again. But before she can stabilize her reaction, she sees a few of their colleagues enter the restaurant, so she panics and hides. Realizing what is going on, Si-woo causes a diversion, while Ha-kyung escapes through the kitchen.

Si-woo finds Ha-kyung outside, and he asks what they have to hide from others if they are being mature and friends. Ha-kyung states she doesn’t want any rumors about them. Si-woo edges closer to her and asks, “do you have feelings for me?” She denies that she likes him, but he doesn’t believe her. The episode ends with Si-woo confidently asking Ha-kyung out.

Episode 3 shows the aftermath of a broken heart and the unease of gaining feelings for someone new as the story holds firm.

Additional points

  • Reporter Chae berates Si-woo for being at the same headquarters as her. He shuts her arguments down and argues he transferred to the same workplace and has nothing to do with her.
  • Reporter Chae hears about Ki-jun and Ha-kyung’s argument in front of other colleagues. She returns home to see Ki-jun tidying the mess she left. Ki-jun is annoyed she hasn’t cleaned up, and the couple argues.
