Forecasting Love and Weather season 1, episode 6 recap

Revisiting the end of the last episode, Ha-kyung and Si-woo are at the motel. Um Dong-han is taken to his room to rest. Si-woo tells Ha-kyung that his reason for being at the motel is a “long story,” but he quickly becomes jealous, wondering why Ha-kyung was at the motel with Um Dong-han. And then, the woman we saw greet Si-woo at the end of episode 5 appears and speaks to him again, causing awkwardness and tension. Anyway, the reason for the episode title, “Heat Island Phenomenon,” is because the city is experiencing a heatwave, which leaves one character in a dangerous position.

It gets worse for Si-woo; he’s asked to move out of the training center as a new trainee needs to take his room. And then he meets Ha-kyung, and she asks him to reconsider their romantic situation — it’s clear that both characters are harboring trauma and are struggling to deal with it. Si-woo comes clean and tells Ha-kyung he went to the motel to meet his father. Flashbacks show his father as a degenerate man who uses his son for money.

Ha-kyung seems to be revitalized at work after recent failures. But then, the father of Si-woo rings her while she’s at work and asks for her time. When they meet, he tells her he suspects she is close to his son, personally and professionally. The man is intimidating, asking if they are in a relationship before asking for money; he knows Ha-kyung gets paid way more than Si-woo.

Ha-kyung’s falls sick and has ended up in the hospital. Si-woo learns of this news and tells Ha-kyung that her mother is in the emergency room. And then, the sister calls Ha-kyung and describes how urgent the situation is. Ha-kyung feels she cannot leave work, and her sister is furious. I was also surprised by the reluctance of the character. Um Dong-han offers to help out with her work, and he insists that she cares for her mother.

Ha-kyung learns that her mother was extremely dehydrated, and the heatwave was likely the primary factor. She’s asked to take good care of her mother by the doctor. Si-woo, who clearly cares, watches Ha-kyung from a distance to see if she’s okay. Afterward, Si-woo gives his father his entire savings but is alarmed to learn that his dad has visited Ha-kyung. He’s dismayed by the lengths his father is going.

The ending

More truths are revealed by the end of episode 6…

Si-woo finally catches up with Ha-kyung, and he apologizes about his father’s behavior. Surprisingly, Ha-kyung is sympathetic and asks if he wants to eat. Flashbacks show Ha-kyung’s childhood; one day, she came home to see that her father had taken his life — the pressure of a failed business got to him. In the present, she shares this story with Si-woo and then asks him a question. She asks him to promise that she will be the first person to know if he stops loving her. When he promises her that, she asks Si-woo if they can live together in another surprising turn in the story.

As for Ki-jun, he’s dealt with a heavy blow. Chae Yu-jin tells him she wants to push back registering their marriage. What this means for Ha-kyung and Si-woo remains to be answered.

Episode 6 brought more twists and turns as the series proves to be a worthy and well-told story.
