Bridgerton season 2, episode 4 recap
Edwina wonders whether the reason that Anthony did not propose is that he dislikes Kate. Due to the compliments in the latest issue from Lady Whistledown, Genevieve gains plenty of customers in her store. During the night, despite their clear attraction for each other, Anthony and Kate continue to fight their feelings. Not convinced of his “romance” with Edwina, Daphne tells Violet that she always thought that Anthony would end up with someone more like him.
During another formal dance, Lady Danduby asks Kate if she enjoyed being alone with Ant. (Lady Danduby isn’t a fool, is she?). And after Eloise gets introduced to Lord Morrison, he asks her to dance, even suggesting “quitting the dancefloor and getting a drink”. It doesn’t work, and she storms off the dancefloor. Her rebellion is not some spirit to be on display. Aware that she is a disappointment to her mother, Eloise wishes to go to bed.
In the midst of the dance, Edwina asks Kate to grant Anthony his blessing for marriage, and in an attempt to do just that, Edwina forces them to dance to a classical version of Dancing On My Own. Kate and Anthony bicker during the dance. And Kate reveals that once Edwina gets married, she is going to return to India.
The ending
After Portia tricks the Cowpers into walking in on Lord Jack and Predaunce embracing each other, it forces the pair into agreeing to marry each other. After Kate and Antony kiss and he says “tell me you feel nothing, and I will walk away,” Daphne walks in on them. Shortly afterward, Daphne tells Anthony that he must be honest with himself. Lord Jack reveals his dirty little secret to Portia, he is, in fact, penniless. He needed to marry a member of the Cowper family to gain their wealth, and Portia’s meddling has ruined his plans. Just as Kate tells Edwina that there is something she must tell her, Anthony proposes to Edwina, and she happily accepts.
The love triangle is shaping up well, and it’s hard to take your eyes off the screen. It seems inevitable that Edwina is going to be hurt. But can her sister really do the unthinkable and break her sister’s heart? Kate doesn’t seem like she would be the type to, but with four episodes left, who knows what’s in store. And the shock of Lord Jack’s secret is sure to cause tension and potentially an interesting relationship between Portia and Lord Jack!
