Now and Then season 1, episode 5 recap

Hugo reads a note that Daniela wrote. In that note, she confesses to her role in the crash that killed Hugo’s biological mother, Jessica, and leaves him a stash of money. And then Now and Then shows Hugo sobbing and drinking before he crashes. Elsewhere, Pedro practices for the upcoming debate, although it gets very heated in rehearsals.

After Flora watches over Hugo at the hospital, she and Belinda speculate whether Hugo was the one blackmailing Daniela, Pedro, Ana, Marcus, and Sofia. Sofia acts as Marcos’ lawyer, but they learn that his father, Arturo, is the sole owner. However, Sofia reveals that because of that, all of the hidden money “belongs” to Arturo. But what Sofia doesn’t know is that as she and Marcos discuss the illegal money, Flora is listening to every word. And she now knows that they paid the ransom. But as they’re spying on Marcos illegally, they’re unable to use the evidence.

Marcos reminds Sofia that he’s getting married to Isabel. Regardless, they still end up making out on the floor, which is where Sofia finds one of the listening devices. Belinda panics as it could get both her and Flora fired, although Flora says that as long as the gang confess, the listening devices won’t matter. The FBI speaks to Ana, and they know that she hasn’t handed over all of the documents that they requested.

Flora brings the gang in for questioning. After she tells them that Hugo only has a fifty per cent chance of survival, she accuses them of paying the ransom. As they leave the station, Marcos tells Ana and Pedro that he and Sofia found bugs in the house, so they must be careful. Moving back to “Then”, Sofia visits Daniela and Hugo. Daniela fears that she doesn’t deserve the family that she has. Sofia, however, tries to reassure her that she does.

Moving back to “Now”, and after Pedro wakes up following a panic attack, Ana tells him that she has got the money from her mother. Marcos tells his father about the mess he, and therefore the family, is in because of the blackmail money. Isabel pleas with Flora to play her the recordings from the house. As a result, Isabel learns that Marcos is sleeping with Sofia whilst Flora goes to the doctor for a CT scan.

The ending

Marcus’s father learns that whilst Flora bugged the house from top to bottom, she did so illegally. Just as the debate starts, the police arrest Ernesto as they believe he could be why funds have gone missing. That particular scandal proves to eat Pedro alive during the debate. But only at first. Following a dramatic speech, Pedro seems to win the people around. As Pedro and Ana walk away from the debate, he tells her that he knows it was her as her Mom didn’t give her any money. But Ana remarks that all she did was hand them the documents. Oh! So did Ana purposely set Ernesto up?!

Marcos returns home and finds that Isabel has packed her belongings and left. Sofia tries to visit him, but without permission, the guard cannot allow Sofia upstairs. A flashback to before the alumni reunion shows the revelation that Sofia came up with the idea to blackmail Marcos, Ana, and Pedro.
