Maggie season 1, episode 4 recap
Maggie, a beautiful blond-haired woman, who prefers her men with dad bods instead of men with those v-things that point towards the down under, does not mind when Daniel orders two ice cream sandwiches because if you stack them, it makes one big one. She says, “I knew there was a new reason I liked you.” This interaction made me say out loud, “Oh my god, she’s perfect.” Of course, Maggie is psychic and could anticipate Daniel needed that reassurance. Daniel then asks her for another date to a restaurant with doors and tablecloths, and she says yes.
We then have two odd pairings. Amy makes a playdate for Dave with Louise because he feels he has no community in the United States. When they arrive, Amy leaves and makes an excuse to give them an hour alone together. Louise misreads the situation and thinks they are trying to welcome her into a potential threesome.
Meanwhile, Ben and Jessie break their oven, and Maggie’s parents come over to fix it. Ben is making dinner for Jessie because it is their anniversary them getting back together. However, Maria managed to wrangle a dinner invite at their apartment so she could meddle and get a free meal. She also, over Jack’s objections, breaks out the emotional toolbox to help figure out the reason for their multiple breakups. She thought she worked to help Jessie and Ben through their issue of her finding the anniversary a reminder of a negative time in their lives.
Maggie again overthinks things. She has a vision of Daniel pleading with her to stop ruining the good thing they have. This scares her, so she calls off the date because she worries he will break things off. (Honestly, the vision seemed like Maggie was the one who was breaking things off). She gets some more sage dating advice from her father and puts on the red dress she borrowed from Amy. Honestly, when she arrives at Daniel’s, and he opens the door, I did a double-take because Rittenhouse has star power you can’t teach. He tells her how great she looks even though she was supposed to be sick.
The ending
Maggie tells Daniel she was scared they would fight and break up if she showed up. They begin to bicker since she lied to him even though Daniel is quite understanding. She then realizes their fight was outside and at nighttime (you should also take note of the rings on her fingers). He mentions the fact they may have more than one fight, to which she replies they should then end it right now. (We call this Chandler Bing syndrome in television writing circles). He approaches her, takes her hands, and says it is healthy to have some relationship conflict.
The idea of this intrigues Maggie. Daniel says he would not be mad at the picture, and she returns the sentiment. They then have their first kiss.
