Virgin River season 4, episode 11 recap
Paige is back on the scene, breaking up Preacher and Julia’s romantic date. Julia leaves the two exes to chat. Paige has been staying at a women’s shelter, although she has contacted Sally. Her friend explained to her that Vince only took Christopher to get to Paige. Paige is distraught, but contacts Vince anyway. The criminal agrees to a trade, Paige for Christopher, and she willingly accepts. Preacher is vehemently against this decision though and takes Vince’s GPS data to go and track him down himself. Paige accepts his plan after an initial hesitation.
Jack’s made his own life changing decision and has finally agreed to take a paternity test. Hopefully this can resolve their issues with Cassandra and her impending lawsuit. Jack is trying valiantly to turn his life around. He’s accepted therapy support, he talks to Mel about his brother’s death and is happy to find out if he is the father. Furthermore, he’s kick-starting his own new venture, hoping to raise some cash with a glamping business. The bar owner is trying his damnedest and Mel appreciates the support.
Doc and Hope visit the neurologist for a scheduled check-up. The doctor recommends some additional support, which Hope is completely against. She says she doesn’t need a babysitter and won’t rot away in an old folk’s home either. Her traumatic brain injury is affecting her decision making and Hope is out of control. Doc clearly needs some extra help. They suggest a rehabilitation center, where Hope wouldn’t have to cook or clean, and could receive daily therapy. Hope goes to the bar to vent, yet Muriel is on Doc’s side, advising she at least gives it a try.
Denny helps Lizzie make some posters and banners for Ricky’s farewell, with the couple appearing to be back on track. They finish their work and Lizzie invites Denny upstairs. He makes up an excuse to leave early, but Lizzie needs to know the truth now. She lays her cards on the table, asking for some honesty in return. Denny replies that he would rather they just be friends. Lizzie pushes for an answer and Denny decides to terminate the friendship as well as their relationship. What is this deep, dark secret he is hiding from her?
Cameron continues to be awkward around Mel, after discovering her pregnancy news. He stocks the clinic’s fridge with fruit and OJ, whilst also buying a cupboard full of tea and a fancy new fan. Mel is suspicious of these generous actions and takes Cameron out for a meal. He reveals that he knows Mel’s secret and then tries to warn her about Jack’s alcoholism. Mel rightfully defends Jack and states he doesn’t really know what he’s talking about. Cameron says this happened with his ex-wife, but Mel just wants them to remain as co-workers, not friends anymore.
The numerous subplots start to build towards the ever-approaching finale. Brady asks Mel for advice with Brie’s past trauma. Jack tells Brie about Mel’s pregnancy. Nick invests in Jack’s glamping business and Hope accepts Doc’s proposal on one condition – she gets to decide who she hires as a health aide.
The ending
Preacher drives into the mountains searching for Vince and Christopher. He spies a hidden cabin and gingerly enters, but finds the place deserted. Back at home, Preacher is suddenly reunited with Christopher. The boy passes Preacher a letter, stating that Paige went with Vince. The farewell letter explains that she has chosen to go with Vince and wishes for Preacher to raise Christopher properly. It’s quite the anti-climax, easily resolving one of the show’s major storylines, missing out on what could have been a rather tense exchange.
In the final scenes, Denny returns home and faints. Don asks around at the bar for Brie’s location and Jack proposes to Mel. The proposal is tenderly shot, with Jack dressing the airstream and kneeling by an open fire. Mel is stunned, but the show cuts away before she makes her final decision. Will she say yes or turn poor Jack down once again?
