Who is Lord Morpheus in The Sandman season 1?

Lord Morpheus, also known as the Master of Dreams, is also one member of a more prominent family known as the Endless. Aka, immortal beings who rule their own realms. Whilst he doesn’t seem as violent or evil as Jonathon or The Corinthian, Lord Morpheus can act cruelly in some ways. He will allow “innocent” people to die if it means he can get what he wants.

But after being forced to spend over a century locked in a cage, can anyone blame Morpheus for not being kind to others?

What does Lord Morpheus do?

After being held in a cage for over a century, Morpheus finally escapes and returns home. Unfortunately, he learns that the realm has decayed and crumbled in whilst he was “away”. But after being away for so long, he has become weak and vulnerable. So the restore the dreaming, he must reclaim what was previously his. To start things off, he must take the dragon Gregory, who was previously a dream and absorb him.

Afterwards, he enlists the help of an exorcist, Johanna, to help him uncover some sand; and this leads him to her ex-girlfriend, who he has to kill to retrieve the sand. When Jonathan uses a ruby and causes several deaths, Morpheus places Jonathon into an endless sleep. Once he learns that a Vortex exists, Lucienne warns him that it must be taken care of. In the end, Morpheus tracks both Rose Walker, the vortex, and The Corinthian and tries to kill them both. Ultimately, he only succeeds in turning The Corinthian to dust.

As for Rose, Morpheus gets stopped from killing her by her grandmother, Unity. Instead, Unity, who is a descendant of the Voltex, forces Lord Morpheous into killing her instead. As the first season of The Sandman ends, Morpheus seems happy and at peace for the first time. But that all seems to change, as the closing moments of The Sandman show that Lucifer wants to turn his world upside down.
