Summary
The growing tension of Tyler not being around/ignoring his family proves to be one of the highlights of this episode. And building on the events of the season finale, Locke and Key season 3 looks set to have Captain Frederick Gideon as the main villain of the season.

Locke and Key season 3, episode 1 recap
Locke and Key season 3 starts with Dorothy being told that she’s “been at this forever” by Ada. The next thing we see is Dorothy pushing a tree trunk which shakes their world; it then becomes clear that they are living within a snow globe that Nina picks up. Shortly afterward, Nina shows Kinsey and Boyd the new snowglobe, and from their conversation, it becomes apparent that Tyler hasn’t made regular contact since he left two months ago. Ellie comes to see Nina, and they discuss “the other place”, and Nina adds that it was as though time and place didn’t exist.
And whilst being back is hard for Ellie, her son, Rufus, tells her to try as it may be good for them to be back in Matheson. At home, Boyd starts to hear whispering and finds a snowflake key. Dorothy and Ada Wheeler attack Nina and demand the key; after stealing it, the two women storm out. But not before Bode gets locked in the snow globe. So Nina calls on Kinsey for help. When Captain Frederick Gideon leads Ada and Dorothy down the well, they stumble across Eden’s body and retrieve a key from her pockets. Next, Ada and Dorothy offer to free Bode if Nina and Kinsey give them all of the other keys. A fight occurs; Nina pushes Dorothy into the magic mirror before she and Kinsey chuck Ada into the mirror, but not before they grab the snow globe key.
The Ending
Moments later, they rescue Bode. And Bode says that he wishes that Tyler was around so they could talk to him. As for Tyler, Locke and Key cuts to him building a house with a co-worker, Carly, who wants him to cut loose and have some fun. It then cuts to later that night, and he meets Carly at a bar, but rather than there being a massive group, it’s just the two of them. After Tyler gets a text from Bode about the upcoming wedding, Tyler tells Carly that he won’t be going to the wedding as he feels that he has only just left. Nina calls Josh and asks him to be her plus-one for the wedding, and he accepts!
As the night draws in, Tyler rejects the offer of watching a movie with Carly and decides to head straight to bed. And when he receives another message from Kinsey, just like the others, he ignores them. Will he eventually come back to his family? It seems likely.
