Summary
The action is building up, and it’s just in time as well. But with the end of Locke and Key sneaking up on the viewers, the show is proving to be at its best right when it needs to be.

Locke and Key season 3, episode 5 recap
Nina asks Bode why Dodge’s body is under his bed, and whilst he feeds her some lies, it remains unclear whether Nina fully believes him. As Kinsey and Tyler have a heartfelt moment now that his memories are back, Nina tells them that she needs them to come with her. The trio discusses Bode, and Kinsey decides to call Duncan for advice on the Timeshift key. Elsewhere, Ellie learns from Rufus that Nina could be in danger as Dodge is back. Unhappy that Dodge has not got results, Captain Frederick Gideon threatens Dodge to get faster results.
Tyler inspects Dodge’s body, and it’s what Nina said — Dodge is not dead, but there’s no pulse. And it dawns on Kinsey and Tyler that Bode must be a ghost and that Dodge will be controlling Bode’s body. As Bode loses his patience, he threatens Nina with a knife; but luckily, Kinsey and Tyler are at hand to chain him up. Dodge reveals that Captain Gideon is trying to destroy their world, but as Dodge is a fan of “meatworld”, he wants the Alpha Key to stop the Captain. Before Nina, Tyler, and Kinsey can send Dodge away, Gideon arrives.
Dodge, who continues to maintain that he is on Locke’s side, says that one way to beat Captain Frederick Gideon is by working together. When Ellie is unable to call Nina, she and Rufus decide to drive over. Captain Gideon, James, and Samuel barge into the Locke’s house, but they can’t find anyone. By using magic, Tyler is able to control James; whilst Nina chains the Captain. However, the Captain soon breaks free of his chains. When Samuel snatches the key off Kinsey, he pushes her to the ground and injures her.
The Ending
When Tyler refuses to hand the keys over, Gideon threatens to burn his family alive. Just as Samuel threatens Kinsey, Dodge flies in and chucks Samuel towards the well house, which burns him into non-existence. With Dodge seemingly proving his alliance, Kinsey hands her one of the keys. Captain Frederick Gideon shoots Dodge; when he goes to shoot Dodge in the head, the Lockes offer to give Gideon the rest of the keys. Duncan leaves a voicemail, which Kinsey hears, and he warns that when the sandbox runs out, so will anything that’s not from that time.
As the sandbox runs out, Dodge disappears, leaving behind the final key. So, as a result, Captain Gideon creates the portal. In the closing moments, the Lockes run for their lives.
