This article discusses the Netflix series The Empress, including the release date, time, plot, cast, and trailer.
The Empress Elisabeth, or Sisi as she’s often known, is one of the most famous European monarchs, so it’s not surprising that there is a new German TV series about her. Just this year, there’s also a new film called Corsage that details her later years in life. She’s a figure that has fascinated people for many years, alongside the likes of Marie Antoinette and Elizabeth I.
The Empress plot
Our opinion of the premise
This German TV series definitely seems like a great show for those who loved The Tudors and Reign. Elisabeth was a very modern woman in many ways and her struggle with her mother-in-law and to find her place in court is one that lends itself well to dramatization.

Is there a trailer for The Empress?
There sure is! Check it out below:
The series certainly does not look like it adheres to historical accuracy – either in events or in its costuming. But it does look like it will be sexy and exciting, particularly in its exploration of the romance between Elisabeth and Franz Joseph. I’m curious if it will touch on any of the heavier topics of the actual Elisabeth’s life, like her eating disorder, loss of her first child, and her depression. Either way, the show definitely looks like it will be entertaining and well worth watching its six episodes.
