Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler season 3, episode 3 recap

At the start of the third episode of HBO Max‘s rebranded Pennyworth, Gully throws a hissy fit and breaks out of the building he is being kept within. And when the authorities try to stop him, he uses his powers to throw the police car through the air. There’s still a lot of tension between Martha and Thomas, a situation only made worse by the massive bruise on her head. Dave feels guilt over Jessica’s name being dragged through the mud. Whilst he might know that she was affected by the drugs, the press makes her out to be a mad woman.

Thomas tells his father, Patrick, to go to the authorities before they come to him. Alfie finds Gully at a pub, and after they catch up for a drink, Gully threatens to place a hole in his head if he comes any closer. When Gully is about to kill a punter from the pub, Alfie seizes his chance to turn off Gully, But the punters are livid over lost money and want payback. A fight soon breaks out. But, as per, Alfie emerges victorious. As Martha is at the park, Dr. Robert tells her that they need to talk. So, she picks a location to meet him in half an hour. Lucius fixes Gully back up, and from what we can assume, he takes him back to the secure location.

Dr. Roberts tries to convince Martha of his identity. He tells her that his original buyer was murdered. He wants £5 million a year. She says she will talk to the Prime Minister. But before she can ask any more questions, he rushes off as men chase after him. Patrick’s wife watches her from afar and declares that a “clean-up” is needed.

The ending

At the funeral of Jessica’s parents, Dave gets way too drunk and makes a speech about how Jessica wasn’t a monster like everyone claimed. He tells the mourners that he shot Jessica, much to the shock of the church. Patrick’s wife spikes Thomas’s drink. He soon falls unconscious, and she brings two suited-up men in. Patrick tries to get her to stop, but she simply instructs him to go back to his room, which he does. Sally, one of the guests at the funeral, tells Dave that he made it the best funeral that she has ever attended.

During the clean-up at Sandra’s place, where a party is happening, Alfie kicks everyone out so he can speak to Sandra. When Martha returns home, Thomas is alive. Has something been done to him? Very likely. After someone rings him, he hears some music and appears to change. When Martha asks what is wrong, it seems to switch to how Thomas sees things. He is now in a darkened cell, and he tries to kill Martha. He stabs her in the side, but he gets interrupted by Mary.
