Summary
Episode 11 brings plenty of emotions as the characters revel in the Korean remake. Again, there are no surprises, but the drama is really effective.
We recap the Netflix K-Drama series Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area season 1, episode 11, which contains spoilers.
A part of me wishes that the original Money Heist was a Korean Drama. Because, for all intents and purposes, this is brilliant. However, knowing what twists are coming does dampen the magic of the story a little. Episode 11 brings an emotional rollercoaster as the heist moves towards a natural end.
Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area season 1, episode 11 recap
Episode 11 opens with a flashback of The Professor discussing an escape route for the heist team. They will be escaping on the day of the Inter-Korean Summit, as there will be chaos with members of the public protesting against the politicians. Scenes show the hypothetical plan in motion, and it goes wrong — they all get shot down.
In the present day, Tokyo reveals the plan of escaping earlier, so they need Moscow to speed up the escape tunnel. Once their meeting is over, Rio questions the plans after learning that Berlin and The Professor are North Korean defectors. However, Tokyo shuts his concerns down and tells him to go along with their plans as usual.
Denver finds Moscow bleeding out in the bathroom after being shot in the last episode. He’s badly wounded. Berlin heads outside with a gun to Yun Misun’s head and asks the police to bring a medical team. However, the police do not appear to want to cooperate with Sangman in charge. Meanwhile, The Professor is in a sticky situation; Captain Cha is guarded by the police in the hospital. He rings Woojin, who is chirpy. She tells him that her friend is in the hospital, but her car will not start.
As the Summit happens early (as predicted), the heist team gets to work in the tunnel while Moscow hangs on to his life. Denver is working extra hard to get the tunnel finished. They reach the other group digging on the other side. The tunnel is almost complete.
The Professor picks up Woojin. She asks him to take her to the hospital. On the way, Woojin tells The Professor that he knows who Captain Cha is. They visit an unconscious Cha in the hospital. Woojin tells The Professor that as soon as Cha wakes up, they’ll know what information he has on the heist team. She’s setting The Professor up. She acts emotional and blames herself for what happened to Cha, so he hugs her, reassuring her that it isn’t her fault. Woojin leaves a bugging device on his coat collar as he leaves.
With a police team with her, Woojin tracks The Professor to a building. However, when they get to the building, The Professor has left his coat there, with the bug clearly on show. The Professor figured out that Woojin had bugged him.
Yun Misun delivers Denver bad news — she tells him to visit his father as soon as possible. Denver gets to his father, and it’s clear he’s about to die. Moscow tells him not to cry and be a man. Denver tells his father that he’s finished digging the tunnel and they can get out of the Mint. Moscow tells him to be good to Yun Misun or that he’ll kill him. The father and son embrace and offer each other their love. Moscow dies, and there’s painful grieving amongst the group; they feel Denver’s pain.
Denver decides to work through his grieving and complete the tunnel, just like his father would have wanted him to.
Ending Explained
With the heist nearly at the end, Tokyo delivers a speech to the team, renewing their energy to complete their job. It’s time to get back to work. Meanwhile, the task team is made aware by Sangman that the plan is to kill every robber in the Mint regardless of the threat to innocent life.
The Professor is finally stopped in his tracks by Woojin. She holds a gun to his head in his hiding place. She’s by herself. The Professor gives her the chance to ask questions as he moves slowly toward her. He gives her his justification for his plans; he states that economic unification only maximizes the profits of the thieves and that he needs to let the world know. He tells her if she arrests him, he will be killed by Sangman.
The Professor then tells her that he loves her. She hesitates, not knowing whether to believe him or not, but as she lets her guard down, The Professor takes the gun off her, says, “I’m sorry,” and shoots. The episode ends.
Episode 11 brings plenty of emotions as the characters revel in the Korean remake. Again, there are no surprises, but the drama is really effective.
