Summary

Episode 3 has an excellent plot twist to keep Jack Ryan devotees engaged and satisfied.

We recap the Prime Video series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan season 3, episode 3, “Running with Wolves,” which contains spoilers.

No flashbacks with Luka (James Cosmo) to open the third episode of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan season 3. The good doctor sneaks into Zoya’s (Ana Ularu) place in Vienna, and November tails her there. He lost his touch, she said, because she spotted him a couple of blocks back. Jack implores her to set up a meeting with whoever set them up with the information.

Zoya tells him she will set up a meeting.

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan season 3, episode 3 recap

Greer is sent to the Czech Republic to update President Kovac on the situation with the assassination of Popov. He drops a bombshell for the president — it was not the United States behind the killing. It was Russia. Popov was only pretending to be a hardliner. This is why he was expendable.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth was told an order to bring in Jack Ryan had come in from the top of the National Intelligence. That means she can no longer control the situation. Jack may be brought back in a body bag, especially since Miller is charging him with treason.

Kovac’s father/advisor brings in a couple of hotheads who think his daughter is not fit to be president anymore. Petr, a Telly Savalas type with a Cold War mentality, gives them a cold death stare that gave me chills. He smiles, though, they go out for a hunt, but something tells me one or both of his guests will not return. I was wrong because while they were cooking their catch, guess who showed up and is coming to dinner? The new Russian defense minister, Petrov. Except, now I am right because later, Petr puts a bullet in the mouthy one’s head.

Meanwhile, Jack is in Vienna trying to find the source who sent them the scientist. They board a train, and an IT ally has Jack look into the camera to manipulate the photo and throw the National Intelligence off his scent. Big mistake because that blonde hitman knocks out November and throws him into a bathroom, and when Jack keeps walking, Luka is sitting there. He lets Jack walk by and pushes a syringe into him. It’s a truth serum.

The blonde hitman who killed Yuri now has Jack on the ground, gun to his face, and Luka is standing behind him, demanding to know who is Jack Ryan’s source? And just as I predicted, Luka shoots the blonde guy in the head, and he reveals to Jack he is the source. He tells them that a group wants to restore the old Soviet Union.

In other words, make Russia great again.

Ending Explained

Greer brings President Kovac in on the situation and expertly has her produce the scenario he saw in her head. Radek walked away, her head of security, before the shooting. He also shows her a video of the supposed shooter driving in with someone in the passenger seat, but they cannot see her ace. She calls her father, Petr, back in because he is the most trusted advisor. Greer is not a fan of this, as we can see on his face. James confirms that Radek is behind the plot, and this is America’s stance.

Jack and November end up traveling to Budapest. November tells Jack he crossed that line he said about the last episode.
