We recap the Netflix K-Drama series The Interest of Love Season 1 Episode 3, which contains spoilers.
The complicated love story between Ahn Su-yeong (Moon Ga-young) and Ha Sang-su (Yoo Yeon-seok) continues. The frustration between the characters can be felt as they suppress their feelings. Is this series going to be a straightforward story of love, or is it going to get more complicated? For now, let’s recap episode 3.
The Interest of Love Season 1 Episode 3 recap
Episode 3 opens with Ahn Su-yeong being offered breakfast outside the bank by a man from the market. She ignores him, and the man falls over. Luckily, Jong-hyun is there to help the man up. He then asks Su-yeong if she’d like to get some breakfast. He serves her food and reveals he brought it in because he knew she was opening the bank that morning. Jong-hyun asks about the man on her phone background and wonders if it’s her boyfriend. She denies that it is and says it’s someone who loves her.
Episode 3 returns to the scene from the end of episode 2, where Ha Sang-su goes outside Su-yeong’s apartment, only to see her stumble into the arms of Jong-hyun. It turns out she tripped into him, but by this point, Sang-su has walked off. Jong-hyun tells Su-yeong to stop going on blind dates. At work the next day, Sang-su does his best to avoid a conversation with Su-yeong. Sang-su and Park Mi-gyeong continue to work well with each other. Mi-gyeong is very complimentary of his work.
Mi-gyeong sees Mr. Yuk being inappropriate with Su-yeong, so she interrupts their conversation. Su-yeong looks relieved. Mi-gyeong tells Su-yeong to make sure she’s not alone in the office with Mr. Yuk moving forward. The pair seem to have some interests in common, including art. Mi-gyeong invites Sang-su for lunch with her and Su-yeong, but he predictably declines. The two women go together instead, and Su-yeong is surprised that she likes her because most women usually don’t. After lunch, Su-yeong sees the same man from the start of the episode handing out leaflets for his restaurant, and she looks sad.
Mi-gyeong and Sang-su go to a nice restaurant for a meal. It feels romantic, but if it is, it’s unspoken. The conversation turns to work. Eventually, Mi-gyeong asks Sang-su if he dates, but he’s vague in his answers. He explains that liking someone comes with responsibility.
We are then treated to some history. Flashbacks reveal that Ahn Su-yeong was close to her brother, but he died young. At the funeral, her father shows up, and she’s upset and furious that he’s there. This is the same man handing out leaflets for his restaurant.
In the present, Su-yeong visits her parents at their restaurant and tells her father never to visit the bank again. The father expresses how they moved into the area as they want to see her occasionally. Su-yeong asks her parents why her brother died, but it’s met with silence. Su-yeong tells her father that he was dead to them. She walks out, tears running down her face.
The next day, before work, Sang-su has breakfast with Mi-gyeong at the restaurant that Su-yeong’s parents run. Mi-gyeong is clearly charmed by him, even if the romance bubbling is unintentional. Later on, Mi-gyeong and Sang-su go ice skating together. Mi-gyeong is slippy on the ice, meaning Sang-su has to hold her up.
As for the friendship forming, Mi-gyeong and Su-yeong enjoy a picnic together by the lake, strengthening their newfound friendship, but Su-yeong seems slightly irked by Mi-gyeong’s privileged background.
And then, Mi-gyeong gets a call; the project she delivered with Sang-su has been successful. She runs up and hugs Sang-su with excitement in front of Su-yeong. Su-yeong and Sang-su look at each other, their feelings apparent.
Ending Explained
The bank goes out to celebrate the project’s success. Su-yeong and Sang-su cannot stop giving each other their eyes. At a bar, Mi-gyeong offers to go on the karaoke, and she invites Sang-su up with her. Sang-su does not look happy to do it with her, feeling the tension between him and Su-yeong, but he sings anyway.
As the singing continues, Su-yeong sits there with her drunk colleagues, looking lonely. One of her drunk colleagues asks her to go to the shop to get drinks, but Sang-su offers to go instead. Su-yeong and Sang-su meet each other outside. Su-yeong asks Sang-su if he’s finding it funny to toy with her emotions. He asks the same question back. What a frustrating romantic story. They clearly want each other.
But then there’s a revelation; Su-yeong tells Sang-su that he chose not to come to their date; she saw him from the window. The twist we were waiting for. Sang-su did stand her up. The episode ends with them both staring at each other.
