We discuss predictions for the Crunchyroll anime series Tomo-Chan Is a Girl! Season 1 Episode 3, and include the release date and where to watch online.

Episode 2 of Tomo-Chan Is a Girl! turned out to be even more fun than the first, as we got a better look at these characters and their relationships. Tomo (Rie Takahashi) is still struggling to get Jun (Kaito Ishikawa) to notice her as a girl, but there are definitely times when it seems Jun notices her more than she thinks. He even showed how much he cared by helping her when she was assaulted on the bus. As long as this series can continue to find a solid balance between comedy and heart, it should be able to hold its own against some of the other romantic comedies this season.

  • The first half of the episode opens with Jun inviting Tomo to sit next to him on the bus. She agrees at first, only to stand up instead. Suddenly, a man begins to grope her.
  • After realizing what’s happening, Jun attacks the man assaulting him.
  • Tomo is happy watching Jun take the initiative for her but is less pleased when he makes a comment about how she should stop wearing skirts.
  • Although concerned for her, Misuzu points out that Tomo’s skirt is shorter than normal, even despite the shorts she wears underneath.
  • Jun is thrilled to find out Tomo is willing to walk home with him. He’s shocked when he sees she is not wearing her usual shorts under her skirt at the suggestion of Misuzu.
  • Once off the bus, Jun refuses to look at Tomo, choosing to walk ahead of her. He later finds himself apologizing for how he acted before but Tomo’s too distracted by his face to hear him. The two make up in the hall later after some influence from Misuzu.
  • The second half of the episode opens with a popular girl named Carol walking down the school hallway. Tomo looks on as the males flock towards her, wondering how she became as girly as she is. Misuzu explains that it isn’t only her looks that get her noticed, but her personality.
  • In the hall, Tomo runs into Carol and Misaki together. She asks how they know one another, and Carol tells her they are in an arranged marriage.
  • After finding out Tomo is not only a female, but friends with Misaki, she continues to try picking fights with Tomo.
  • Carol approaches Misuzu, looking for dirt on Tomo, but Misuzu directs her to Jun instead.
  • Jun agrees to help her.
  • Tomo is surprised to see Jun and Carol hanging out.
  • Tomo finds herself preoccupied with thoughts of Jun and Carol together. Meanwhile, Jun slowly realizes Carol has zero stamina and athletic ability.
  • Tomo goes to the gym to see what Jun and Carol are doing and begins berating Jun.
  • After watching Jun and Tomo interact, Carol realizes that Tomo is no threat to her relationship with Misaki and leaves.
  • Carol takes Misuzu out for cake for her advice, but when Carol asks if this makes them friends, Misuzu suggests she ask Tomo instead. Carol is afraid she has already messed up her chance, but is assured that Tomo will still agree. In the end, Tomo, Misuzu, and Carol all end up becoming friends.
  • The episode ends with Tomo telling Jun Carol is not that bad. As Jun says, Carol and Misuzu are all the rage amongst the guys right now, he accidentally reveals that he and Misuzu dated for a brief period in middle school, shocking Tomo.

While I was off on most of my predictions, I was close with assuming Jun would become more protective over Tomo and, therefore, more jealous. We definitely saw hints of jealousy, especially on the bus this week. With as goofy and unexpected as this show is, it will be hard to predict, but let’s see if I can close this week.

  • Episode 2 ended on a surprise cliffhanger, with Jun revealing he and Misuzu used to date in middle school. I imagine there will be some flashback and explanation next week, probably narrated by both Jun and Misuzu at different points.
  • After hearing what happened between Jun and Misuzu, Tomo will probably take a while to process the information. She’s easily distracted, especially when it comes to Jun. She may even begin to doubt her friendships, but hopefully, that will be a small problem.
