Class Season 1 Ending Explained - Who killed Suhani?

This article contains major spoilers for the Netflix Hindi series Class Season 1 Episode 8, including an open discussion of Class Season 1’s ending.

Class is a Hindi-language remake of Netflix’s hit teen drama Elite, and follows the same general premise. Three students – Dheeraj, Saba, and Balram, aka Balli – receive a scholarship to Hampton International, a prestigious Delhi academy, when their previous school, Nurpur Khatola Government School, is burned down in an “accident”. For Hampton, it’s good PR, but the three transfers know they don’t belong there, and so do most of the other students, who are almost all scions of extremely wealthy businessmen and industrialists.

Like Elite, Class revolves around the murder of a student. In this case, it’s Suhani, the daughter of a wealthy builder named Suraj Ahuja whose negligence may be the cause of Nurpur Khatola being cinders. The eight-episode season uses the investigation into the murder as a framing device, moving backward and forward through time, presenting multiple different suspects and motives.

Class Season 1 Ending Explained

As the season progresses, we begin to meet other characters and understand particular dynamics. Suhani has a brother, for instance, Veer, and their father is the subject of protests by Dheeraj’s brother, Neeraj, who plans to steal from Suhani’s family to pay off a family debt. Suhani and Dheeraj have a bond that everyone on both sides of the divide can’t stand.

Saba, meanwhile, becomes a rival to Yashika for the Hampton Gold scholarship, and also reveals a softer side of Veer when Yashika tries to use him to shame and humiliate her, while Balli becomes involved in a slightly open relationship between Koel and her boyfriend, Sharan. She also befriends Dhruv, introduces him to drugs and a dealer thereof named Faruq (Saba’s brother), and unwittingly kicks off a secret relationship between the two.

Eventually, through their mutual dislike of her family, Suhani falls for Neeraj and encourages him to steal the expensive mobile phone collection of Koel’s father, Mr. Kalra, with help from her intimate knowledge of Koel’s house and habits. The phones aren’t worth as much as promised, but the information contained in one of them, which Neeraj plans to use against Koel’s family, is worth its weight in gold.

This fortune also becomes something of an escape plan for Suhani and Neeraj, since the former is pregnant. They plan to run away and settle together, especially since Suhani’s family has been rightfully arrested after an investigation into the fire at Nurpur Khatola Government School.

Anyway, let’s get to the good stuff.

Class Season 1 Episode 8 Recap

Who killed Suhani?

Suhani was killed by Sharan, who was trying to win back Koel. After overhearing a conversation between Balli and Koel about the missing phones, Sharan confronts Suhani. He’s still fuming about being outed, and when the argument takes a nasty turn, he beats Suhani to death.

Covered in blood and still carrying Suhani’s bag, Sharan goes to Koel, who helps him dispose of the evidence.

Who gets the blame for killing Suhani?

Thanks to Koel’s family contacts, Neeraj, who found Suhani dead on campus, is arrested for her murder. Dheeraj’s testimony – he said he saw Neeraj around the body, but nothing more – and some footage of a fleeing Neeraj, as well as some connections in high places, seal the deal for Neeraj. He’s arrested, and Dheeraj isn’t even allowed to see him.

Who is blackmailing Koel and Sharan?

The season ends with Koel and Sharan believing they have gotten away with murder, only for a text message sent to both of them to suggest that they very much haven’t.

Someone – the identity isn’t confirmed, though circumstances suggest it’s probably Balli – has incriminating evidence of the two of them, including a picture of Sharan wearing the bloody shirt. However, they’re willing to keep their mouth shut in exchange for something – what might that be? We’ll have to wait and see, I suppose.
