Will there be a Class Season 2?

This article discusses whether there will be a Class Season 2 and the renewed or canceled status of the Netflix Hindi series. It may contain spoilers for the first season.

Continuing its shameless wringing of well-established IP, Netflix have returned to the melodramatic teen drama well with Class, an Indian remake of the Spanish-language multi-season mega-hit Elite. The streamer has already set a precedent for this kind of thing by remaking Money Heist as Money Heist: Joint Economic Area, a South Korean redo of the beloved series.

Here’s a quote from our review:

That story employs a lot of the same formal tricks as Elite, cutting backward and forwards through time and presenting the same events from multiple perspectives. You’ll buy in, eventually, because the po-faced drama is designed to get its hooks in, even while you continue to notice – and often, at least in my case, laugh at – the more ridiculous elements. If the intention of a show like Class is to deliver a highly entertaining but deeply familiar experience, then it succeeds more than it has any real right to, thanks at least in part to some legitimately strong construction and tonal control.

Class is a pretty heavy eight-episode binge, but you know what the teen drama crowd are like. So, what might the show’s future look like? Here’s everything we know.

Renewed or canceled status: TBC

At the time of writing Netflix haven’t confirmed a second season — but they haven’t revealed a cancelation either.

Class wasn’t especially well-promoted ahead of its release, but given the association with Elite and the indescribable success of the genre, it’s likely the streamer assumed the show would probably market itself. And the show’s remake status is pretty obvious, from the simple, obvious title to the general premise. Anyone familiar with Elite won’t be under any assumptions about what this is.

However, the key question is whether the fanbase crosses over. Plenty have stuck with Elite despite it clearly exhibiting diminishing returns at this point, but is the appeal of an IP already past its sell-by date going to be enough to lure a sizeable audience to this new show? Time will tell in that regard and Netflix will surely be keeping a very close eye on several key metrics.

As with Elite, though, Class is telling a story that is clearly meant to take place across multiple seasons, and the first season finale very much sets up a sequel. It reveals a couple of the key dramatic questions but tees up a direct continuation, with the perpetrators of the crime at the story’s center not being brought to justice, but finding themselves victims of an anonymous blackmailer.

It’ll depend on how Class performs, but if we were to make an official prediction, we think it’s very likely that Class will be renewed for a second season.
