A science-fiction mystery plot forms the backdrop of a love triangle that tediously plays out across two distinct time periods, with the show jumping back and forth between 2022 and 2052 frequently.

Mercifully running across six overlong episodes rather than eight or more, the story here is set in two distinct time periods. In 2022, we see young versions of Marta, and her pilot suitors Niko and Bogdan, meet and go through the motions of a torpid love triangle, while in 2052, we see Niko’s sudden return to Earth from a space mission kickstart a conspiratorial plot and some long-dormant feelings in Marta. None of this is as interesting as it sounds.

At the time of writing Netflix haven’t confirmed the show’s future. However, on this occasion, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll see more of the story.
Netflix are primarily concerned with their internal metrics rather than critical reception, but the negative reaction to A Girl and an Astronaut certainly won’t help it. Audiences aren’t very likely to latch onto it because of its glacial pace, torpid love story, and unsatisfying ending, which also, while not exactly closing the story off completely, doesn’t exactly scream with the necessity for a follow-up.
While you can never say never, our official prediction is that A Girl and and Astronaut will not be renewed for Season 2.
