We recap the Prime Video series Daisy Jones and the Six Season 1 Episode 3, “Track 3: Someone Saved My Life Tonight,” which contains spoilers.

For two entire episodes of Daisy Jones and The Six, the showrunners have kept Daisy Jones (Riley Keough) and the band separate. This technique works wonders in “Track 3: Someone Saved My Life Tonight” when they are eventually brought together in an exhilarating fashion. The third installment focuses on Billy Dunne’s (Sam Claflin) return to normality, Daisy’s struggles with her first solo album, and the exploration of misogyny in the music industry.

Daisy Jones and the Six Season 1 Episode 3 Recap

We are now in 1974, and Daisy is working on her first solo album with Teddy. She plays him her first song, which he is impressed by, although she’ll need to write ten more for the album, and they’ll all have to be even better than her first. It’s a tall order, and Daisy struggles to find the motivation to succeed under this immense pressure. Meanwhile, her roommate Simone goes from strength to strength, recording her solo LP. Things are looking up, yet her record producer starts to make moves on Simone in the studio, ruining her dream job instantly.

At a California pool party, Simone meets Bernie, a possible love interest, and Daisy is reacquainted with an ex. This ex-boyfriend is the very same one who stole her lyrics and turned them into a hit, number-one song. She confronts her ex, angered that he won’t credit or even thank her for the lyrics. The ex refuses to acknowledge Daisy’s involvement, and in return, she pushes him into the pool.

Why does Billy quit the band?

Things are going a little better in Billy’s life. He returns home after a stint in rehab. Billy finally gets to meet his daughter and is reunited with the band. Billy is filled with guilt after his disappearing act and quickly turns things around. He exercises daily and starts to repair their home, doing odd DIY jobs to pass the time. Billy also helps out with the baby and bonds with his daughter more.

He tells the band he cannot return to his old ways and quits The Six. There is too much temptation on tour and with the rockstar lifestyle, so Billy quits the band. It’s also revealed that the label had dropped The Six after the tour was canceled.

Who is the new lead singer of the Six?

Teddy visits, happy to see that Billy is improving. Billy surmises that Teddy is here to change his mind about quitting the Six to persuade him to return to the band. Although Teddy agrees with Billy on this one. The old band looks for a new singer to replace Billy in the meantime and hold auditions. The singers they hear are awful, though, and Eddie (the bassist) is the new singer by default.

Billy yearns to return to Pittsburgh and asks Camila if they can move back home. He’ll get a job doing construction work, and Camila can take photographs for the local newspapers. Camila won’t have it, though, and pressures Billy into admitting why he is running away. Billy fears he’ll mess up his daughter’s life, having already ruined his career and marriage. Camila confesses that she has the same fears; you must step up and do the right thing in parenting. Billy listens and starts to improve as a father.

After asking to leave the band, Billy now wants back in. He’s written a new song that he is proud of, which he soon plays to the band and then Teddy. Billy’s old music producer likes it but worries that the label will not put any trust in the band ever again; he’s burned too many bridges after the tour cancellation. Teddy is correct; the label rejects the song. However, this works in The Six’s favor. Teddy plays the demo to Daisy and has the epiphany to have her work on the song.

Why does Daisy work with the band?

Daisy struggles to complete her debut album and jumps at the chance to work on this new song. Teddy brings Daisy into the studio to work with the Six, hoping to make the song a duet. Billy is obviously against the idea, feeling threatened by this new singer. Teddy hadn’t told Billy that Daisy had added her lyrics either. When they sing together, it is magical, but Billy’s ego gets in the way. He storms out of the studio to speak with Teddy in private. Teddy sides with Daisy, agreeing that the song can be improved. He even admits that the label rejected the new song; this studio time is being paid for by Teddy.
