Summary
After months of anticipation, this episode delivers everything fans wanted and then some.
We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Tomo-Chan Is a Girl! Season 1 Episode 12, “Goodbye, Best Friend,” which contains spoilers.
While Tomo’s (Rie Takahashi) relationship with Jun (Kaito Ishikawa) seems to improve, that doesn’t mean every friendship in her life thrives. Although things between Misuzu (voiced by Rina Hidaka) and Tomo have been a little off lately, it hasn’t hindered their friendship just yet, either.
As long as nothing goes wrong, this week’s production of Cinderella could be what the girls need to solve their problems, but Tomo and her friends rarely get through any day without at least a few setbacks. Hopefully, whatever obstacles they encounter just aren’t enough to ruin a friendship.
Tomo-Chan is a Girl! Season 1 Episode 12 Recap
The episode opens with Tomo, Misuzu, and Carol’s mothers meeting at the school’s Cultural Festival to watch their daughters in Cinderella together. The play begins with Tanabe narrating.
When the curtain pulls back, the audience sees Misuzu as Cinderella for the first time. Carol plays her evil stepmother, Jun plays a tree, and Tomo plays Prince Charming.

After the play, Jun asks Tomo to walk around the festival with him. They play games, visit a cafe and walk through a haunted house. Yet, despite having fun, Tomo can’t help but think about how all of this will end for them and if this is the kind of future she wants from Jun.
Why does Tomo run away from Jun at the festival?
After asking her to dance, Tomo jokes that Jun asking her in front of all these people might give everyone the wrong idea about them since he only asked her as a friend. However, Jun immediately corrects her saying that people would not be getting the wrong idea about them.
Before he can explain what he means, Tomo takes off running. From then on, she continues to run away from Jun every time he tries to bring it up.
Does Jun like Tomo?
After asking Kosuke for advice on the situation, Jun admits that he finally realized he has feelings for Tomo.
He later confesses to Misuzu that he is, in fact, in love with Tomo and has been since before they dated.
Did Jun know Tomo had feelings for him?
To trick her into a meeting with him, Jun leaves Tomo an anonymous note threatening a fight.
When she shows up, Jun confesses that he knew what she meant back when she confessed to him and that he was pretending not to.
Tomo-Chan is a Girl! Season 1 Episode 12 Ending Explained
Does Jun confess to Tomo his feelings?
As Tomo tries to leave, Jun yells out that he is in love with Tomo, and she responds by calling him a “dumba**” before running away again.
After speaking with Misuzu and Carol, though, Tomo decides to hear Jun out. When he confesses, Tomo fears they cannot be together and remain best friends, but Jun says that is exactly what he’s hoping for. The episode ends with Tomo telling Jun she loves him as he raises his fist in excitement.
This is the episode fans have been waiting for, and after all that time, I’m glad they didn’t hold back. With romantic comedies, there’s often a lot of slow burn and misunderstandings, and while this series had that, they did not drag it out in the end when it mattered. Jun and Tomo finally hashed things out, talking about their insecurities and confessing their feelings. It was a satisfying confession that didn’t seem to leave any loose ends. With the finale next, seeing how their relationship progresses from here will be interesting.
